Can Claude or ChatGPT apply to jobs for you?
Partly: Claude and ChatGPT can find listings, tailor your resume, and fill in an application form in a browser while you sign in and confirm, but ChatGPT's job search and Claude's job-board connectors send you to the job site to apply, and Claude in Chrome won't create the accounts some application portals require. To have your assistant apply for you, connect a job-search MCP server that can submit: with Dreamwork's, Claude or another MCP client can search live roles ranked to your resume, build a tailored application, and apply once you confirm.
What ChatGPT does on its own
From OpenAI's help center.
- Job search. ChatGPT surfaces live listings from sources like Indeed, Upwork, and Appcast, personalized to your experience, and can help tailor a resume for a role. You follow links to apply on the source sites. It's available in the U.S. on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro.
- Cloud browser. In ChatGPT Work, on paid plans other than Free and Go, it can read pages, click buttons, and enter information into forms. It pauses when it needs your input, sign-in, or confirmation, and asks before actions that create a financial, legal, account, or other real-world commitment. OpenAI says some websites block automated browser agents and some tasks need a final step you complete yourself.
- Custom MCP servers. Full MCP support, including write actions, is only on Business and Enterprise/Edu plans. Pro users can connect custom MCP servers with read and fetch permissions. So on a personal plan, an MCP server can bring listings into ChatGPT, but its apply step is out of reach.

What Claude does on its own
From Anthropic's help center.
- Claude in Chrome. On all paid Claude plans, it can read, click, type, navigate, and fill forms in your browser (in beta in the Chrome side panel). It asks before entering potentially sensitive information, and it is prohibited from creating accounts or bypassing CAPTCHAs, whatever permissions you give it.
- Custom connectors. Any Claude plan can add a remote MCP server as a custom connector; the Free plan is limited to one. Claude shows a tool approval request before using a connector's tools, which you can allow once or always.

Accounts
Some application portals ask you to create an account before you can apply. Claude in Chrome won't create one, and ChatGPT pauses for you to sign in.
The final step
OpenAI says the cloud browser can't finish every task, and that you may need to take over or complete the last step yourself.
Blocked sites
Some websites restrict automated browser agents, so a form that works in your own browser can fail in theirs.

Can my assistant apply without asking me?
Not without a confirmation step. Applying, replying to a recruiter, and changing Autopilot are held by Dreamwork until the assistant confirms them with a one-time token that expires after two minutes. Assistants use that step to show you what will be sent and ask before it goes out.
