Our vision is to nurture the next generation of fearless leaders to solve the toughest challenges of our planet.

About the Role

As a Junior Research Fellow, you will contribute to ongoing research projects under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI). You will be responsible for designing and conducting experiments, analysing experimental data, and contributing to the successful execution of project objectives within established timelines. The role offers an opportunity to strengthen your research capabilities while working collaboratively within a laboratory environment.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the project's objectives, scientific rationale, and theoretical and practical significance.
  • Design and plan experiments in consultation with the PI and Co-PI to achieve the defined research objectives within project timelines.
  • Perform laboratory experiments using appropriate molecular biology and protein expression techniques.
  • Observe, record, analyse, and interpret experimental data to support research findings and project outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and follow established laboratory protocols and research practices.
  • Handle DNA and protein samples carefully, ensuring accuracy and reliability throughout experimental procedures.
  • Collaborate with the PI, Co-PI, and other laboratory members to discuss findings, address experimental challenges, and support project progress.
  • Contribute to the smooth functioning of the laboratory by sharing responsibilities and maintaining an organised working environment.
  • Support and guide junior research fellows in laboratory procedures and experimental practices, as required.

Educational Qualifications and Experience

  • M.Sc. in any discipline of Life Sciences, with a minimum of 60% marks.
  • 1–2 years of research experience, including experience gained through a master's dissertation.
  • Prior experience in protein expression and purification using bacterial expression systems is essential.

Skills Required

  • Hands-on experience in recombinant protein expression and purification using bacterial expression systems.
  • Proficiency in basic molecular biology techniques, including plasmid DNA isolation, agarose gel electrophoresis, and SDS-PAGE.
  • Familiarity with UV-Vis spectroscopy and colorimetric assays.
  • Experience in DNA and protein sample handling.
  • Strong experimental, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to plan experiments, maintain research records, and work collaboratively in a laboratory environment.

What Can Plaksha Offer You?

  • A mission-driven workplace with opportunities to contribute to impactful research and collaborate with experts across academia and industry.
  • A transparent work culture embodying our values of C.R.E.A.T.E. — Curious, Rigorous, Enterprising, Authentic, Thankful, and Exemplary — fostering continuous learning and professional growth.
  • An inclusive environment that values diverse talent, encourages innovation, and supports the development of individuals from underrepresented groups.
