About The Role
Lead the health, safety and wellbeing direction of a large, complex and highly visible operational environment, with influence extending across employees, contractors and suppliers.

Reporting to an Executive General Manager and leading an established HSW team, you will turn strategy into practical delivery, strengthen governance and assurance and ensure leaders have clear visibility of performance, critical risk and emerging priorities.

This is a role for a senior safety leader who can think strategically, operate pragmatically and influence at every level.

What You Will Lead
  • Shape the HSW strategy, operating plan and roadmap
  • Strengthen critical risk, assurance and Safety Management Systems
  • Influence Executive, Board and senior operational decision-making
  • Build safety culture, worker engagement and wellbeing capability
  • Lead a high-performing HSW team with clear accountability
Your remit will extend across direct operations and a significant contracted workforce, with responsibility for strengthening PCBU governance and ensuring suppliers and contractors are aligned with safety expectations.

What Success Looks Like

You will create a clear and practical HSW strategy that leaders understand, own and deliver.

You will mature the Safety Management System towards ISO 45001, strengthen critical risk management and assurance, improve accountability across operational and supplier environments and provide leaders and governance forums with timely, actionable insight.

What You Will Bring
  • Senior HSW leadership within a complex operational environment
  • Strong HSWA, PCBU, governance and assurance knowledge
  • Proven success developing and embedding safety management systems
  • Confidence influencing Executives, senior leaders and governance forums
  • Relevant degree in Health and Safety or similar
Transport, infrastructure or another contractor-heavy operational environment would be particularly relevant.

The Leadership Style

You will be a credible, emotionally intelligent and influential leader who can challenge thinking, while bringing people along the journey with you.

Complexity and change won’t faze you at all.  You can move comfortably between strategy and delivery, simplify complex issues, develop strong teams and communicate with equal credibility in the boardroom and across operational leadership.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to influence health, safety and wellbeing at genuine scale.

You will have the mandate to shape strategy, strengthen governance, develop capability and influence how critical risks are managed across a complex operational and contractor network.

For a senior HSW leader motivated by impact, complexity and the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy, this is a role worth exploring.
