Fiordland Discovery is seeking a Deckhand for our Milford season. The applicant would ideally hold a current SRL maritime ticket as some driving of the vessel will be required.

Alongside an understanding of vessel handling and general maritime knowhow, you will be required to use the PA system to inform customers of their surrounds and other interesting facts.  You will also be required to assist with all aspects of the operation in keeping with a team environment.  This is a busy role, and you will require a good work ethic and be able to work unassisted at times and a have a solid safety focussed outlook.

Preference will be given to those with local knowledge and a current place to live within the Southland or Otago areas.  This role can be extended to the right person into our multiday adventure cruise season post Milford Sound from May 2027.  Ideally, we are looking for a person who wants to be a Captain long term and therefore we are looking for a degree of experience on other vessels and a willingness to be as passionate about the area as we are.     

If you feel you have the capability to step into one of Fiordland’s premiere cruise companies and are willing to learn the scene, there may be a long-term role that begins in Milford Sound but takes you further to explore the whole of Fiordland National Park and Rakiura.
