Te Tūranga | About the Role

We're looking for a practical and motivated Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering team at our Belfast site in North Christchurch.

This is a hands-on role that would suit someone with experience in maintenance engineering, light fabrication, fitting and turning, mechanical trades, plant maintenance, or a similar engineering environment. You may already be working in a manufacturing setting, or you may have developed your skills in workshops, fabrication, agricultural engineering, construction, transport, or other heavy industry environments.

Most importantly, you'll bring a strong mechanical aptitude, a willingness to learn, and a genuine interest in maintaining and improving equipment reliability.

Working closely with our Production and Engineering teams, you'll help keep our plant and equipment running safely and efficiently through planned maintenance, breakdown response, fabrication work, equipment improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity to broaden your engineering skills within a large and supportive manufacturing environment.

Shift Pattern: This role supports both day and night shift operations. The shift pattern is a 9-hour rotating shift commencing at either 5:30am or 3:30pm. Flexibility is required to support operational requirements across both shifts. The role operates Monday to Friday, with Saturday work available during our peak season.

What You'll Have Ownership Of

  • Carrying out maintenance, repairs, and fault-finding across site equipment and production assets.
  • Completing planned maintenance activities to maximise plant performance and minimise downtime.
  • Responding to equipment breakdowns and restoring plant to full operating capacity safely and efficiently.
  • Undertaking light fabrication, welding, and workshop-based engineering tasks as required.
  • Maintaining pneumatic, hydraulic, conveyor, drive systems, and associated plant equipment.
  • Assisting with the installation, modification, and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Supporting continuous improvement projects aimed at improving reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records through site maintenance systems.
  • Promoting safe work practices through hazard identification, isolations, permits, and compliance with site safety requirements.
  • Contributing positively to team culture and working collaboratively across Engineering and Production teams.

Ōu Pūkenga | About You

You're someone who enjoys working with your hands, solving problems, and finding practical solutions. Whether your background is in maintenance engineering, fabrication, fitting, mechanical trades, or a related field, you're keen to continue developing your skills and knowledge.

You take pride in producing quality work, enjoy working as part of a team, and are committed to maintaining a safe and efficient workplace.

Ideally, You'll Bring

  • A relevant engineering, mechanical, fabrication, or trade qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in a maintenance, fabrication, workshop, manufacturing, agricultural, transport, or industrial environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with light fabrication, welding, fitting, or general engineering activities.
  • A willingness to learn and develop new skills across a diverse range of equipment and systems.
  • An understanding of preventative maintenance and equipment reliability principles.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment.
  • A strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Good communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Computer literacy and experience using maintenance management systems would be advantageous but not essential.

We know not everyone will meet every requirement. If you're mechanically minded, enjoy hands-on engineering work, and are eager to learn, we'd love to hear from you.
