Our core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand – a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system.
Electrification of most of the energy used in our economy is no longer in doubt: it’s happening, and the pace is only going to increase. Our project pipeline is growing in scale, and we are building the capability and capacity needed to deliver an increased programme of grid investment, asset renewal, customer connections and critical infrastructure projects for New Zealand.
About the team
Our Grid Delivery division is accountable for the delivery of all work across New Zealand's transmission network. This includes project and maintenance work, delivered in conjunction with our service provider organisations. Transpower delivers approximately $650M capex and $150M in opex per annum.
Our National Delivery team of around 80 diverse and collaborative project managers manage and deliver sound, cost-effective projects that align with the needs of Transpower, our customers and our stakeholders, and provide long-term value. The development opportunity
You’ll work alongside our knowledgeable project managers, supporting them on large or complex projects while delivering small to medium projects of your own. They’ll share their expertise, and we’ll back you as you develop your ability to tackle greater challenge and variety.
We collaborate with teams across planning, procurement, commercial, property and environmental functions, as well as consultants, customers, developers, service providers and iwi, so you’ll build a strong professional network.
As you grow your career with us, you’ll be able to point to critical infrastructure projects that you delivered to help power New Zealand!
What will you bring?
We’re looking for energy, strong communication and organisational skills and ~3 or more years’ relevant work experience (this could be in project coordination, a relevant field-based role or similar). You’re curious, collaborative and keen to learn. You build relationships easily and care about the safety and wellbeing of the people around you. Regular reporting is part of how we work. You report openly on progress and risks and welcome check-ins on your work, and we back you with feedback and support to keep growing.
To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:
- Examples of projects you have coordinated or delivered, and a clear desire to grow as a Project Manager
- Experience engaging with stakeholders at all levels, including contractors and delivery partners
- Commitment to safety, with examples of initiatives, training or protocols you’ve been involved in
- A relevant qualification, or willingness to achieve a formal project management qualification within 18 months of starting
- Experience with digital tools for project planning and delivery, such as databases, financial systems and project management software (e.g. MS Project)
- Navigating challenges to deliver outcomes
- Confidence giving clear, accurate updates on progress, cost and risk
- Why you want to work for Transpower and/or work in the Electrical Industry.
