Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Contract: Permanent | Field-Based
Earn More. Travel Less. Develop Your Skills.
£46–50k basic. Enhanced overtime. 1-in-12 call-out. Private healthcare. Company van.
If you're an experienced Fire & Security Engineer who enjoys getting stuck into technical fault-finding, but wants a role with a strong salary, a manageable service area and a company that invests in its engineers, this could be well worth a look.
We're recruiting for an established and growing engineering business looking to strengthen its service team in the Reading and Berkshire area.
You'll be looking after a varied portfolio of commercial and industrial customers, carrying out service, maintenance and repairs across a broad range of Fire & Security systems. The role offers plenty of independence, a good mix of technical challenges and the backing of a wider engineering team when needed. Importantly, work is allocated regionally, with engineers generally covering sites around their home location rather than travelling unnecessarily across the country.

What's in it for you?

Alongside a competitive basic salary, you'll receive

£46,000 – £50,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
Overtime paid at 1. 5x, increasing to 2x for qualifying late and weekend working.
1-in-12 on-call rota – £250 standby allowance plus payment for hours worked.
Company van and fuel provided.
25 days' holiday plus bank holidays.
Private healthcare and company pension.
Laptop, mobile phone, tools and equipment.
Ongoing technical training and opportunities to expand your expertise.
Long-term job security and career prospects within an expanding business.

What will you be working on?
This isn't a role where you'll be limited to servicing one type of system or carrying out the same routine jobs every day. You'll be working across a combination of:
Fire Alarms: Testing, servicing, fault diagnosis and remedial repairs.
CCTV: Maintenance and troubleshooting of IP and analogue systems.
Intruder Alarms: Planned servicing, breakdowns and repairs.
Access Control & Door Entry: Fault-finding, maintenance and system upgrades.
Small Works: Minor installations, modifications and improvements to existing systems.
You'll take responsibility for your own jobs, working directly with customers to investigate problems, recommend solutions and get systems back up and running. Accurate service reports, compliance paperwork and safe working practices will also be an important part of your day-to-day responsibilities.

What experience do you need?
We're looking for a capable, multi-skilled engineer with a solid background in Fire & Security servicing and maintenance. Ideally, you'll have:
Previous experience as a Fire & Security Service Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or similar.
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills, particularly on fire alarms and electronic security systems.
Practical experience across several disciplines, such as CCTV, intruder alarms, access control and door entry.
Familiarity with different manufacturers and both conventional and IP-based technologies.
The confidence to work independently and resolve technical problems on customer sites.
A professional, reliable approach and good customer communication skills.
A full UK driving licence.
Experience with automated gates and barriers would be an advantage, although it's certainly not essential. You don't need to be an expert in every system. What's more important is a strong technical foundation, a practical approach to problem-solving and the willingness to learn.

Your Working Area
You'll ideally be based in Reading or the surrounding Berkshire area, with customer sites across Reading, Basingstoke, Swindon and neighbouring locations. Workloads are planned geographically wherever possible, allowing engineers to focus on their local region.
