Software Engineer IV – Applied AI Product Engineer
Leading technology company | UK remote | 6-month contract
December 2026–June 2027 | 9:00am–6:00pm
£56 per hour PAYE + 15% company bonus
A leading technology company is seeking an experienced engineer to build internal products and integrations that help content, product and research teams develop, evaluate and launch AI-powered experiences.
This is a hands-on product engineering role. You’ll work across the full lifecycle: understanding user needs, shaping a technical approach, building and launching solutions, and improving them based on feedback. The work includes AI evaluation tools, data and analytics workflows, and applied AI prototypes. A key focus is turning manual processes and recurring technical support into reliable self-service tools.
What you’ll do
- Build internal products, integrations and data workflows from end to end.
- Turn ambiguous user needs into clear, practical technical solutions.
- Develop prototypes into reliable, reusable tools.
- Create evaluation and feedback loops for AI-powered workflows.
- Apply production engineering practices, including testing, observability and safe failure handling.
- Use AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully, reviewing and validating generated work.
- Measure adoption, quality, time saved and reductions in manual support.
- Document solutions and create onboarding paths that help teams use and maintain them.
- Manage several technical workstreams and make clear decisions about priorities and trade-offs.
- 6+ years’ experience building production software in software engineering, product engineering, ML engineering or a hands-on technical solutions role.
- Experience owning a technical product from an ambiguous problem through design, implementation, launch and iteration.
- Proficiency in a language such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, PHP/Hack or C++.
- Experience building or integrating APIs, backend services, data workflows or full-stack products.
- Strong debugging skills and experience with automated testing, observability and reliable error handling.
- The ability to use data and metrics to assess outcomes and explain technical trade-offs to different audiences.
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
This role suits an engineer who enjoys solving evolving problems and building tools that help other teams work more effectively. It focuses on hands-on product engineering rather than content production, labelling, prompt writing, project coordination or AI research.
