What exactly is the objective of this role?

We're looking for a Director of Engineering Agentic AI to join OneAI. You will lead the engineering organisation behind our conversational, voice and generative AI products, turning product vision into reliable, scalable systems that deliver measurable value for customers. This role suits someone with around 15-20 years of relevant experience.

What will be my Key Responsibilities?

• Lead multiple engineering pods, partnering with engineering managers to align team deliverables with the organisation's vision and to set a clear technical direction and roadmap for agentic AI, chatbots, voice AI and GenAI applications.
• Own delivery end to end: ensure milestones and commitments are met, risks are surfaced early, and the systems you are accountable for maintain high uptime and availability.
• Run retrospectives and root-cause reviews of incidents and downtime, and turn the findings into lasting improvements in reliability, observability and operational practice.
• Mentor and coach engineering managers and developers, building a culture of ownership, engineering craft and inclusive collaboration while improving productivity and operational efficiency. Hire, develop and retain strong talent and plan for succession.
• Work closely with product managers to understand the product vision, customer impact and the rationale behind features, and shape technical solutions that improve customer ROI and fit business needs.
• Oversee the development of chatbots, voice AI and GenAI applications, including agentic workflows, with clear standards for quality, evaluation, security, privacy and responsible AI use.
• Lead the scalability, maintainability, performance and cost optimisation of existing systems, balancing near-term delivery with sustainable architecture and managing technical debt.
• Drive new GenAI projects built on GenAI APIs, including bot-training and analysis workflows that use customer knowledge documents, and adopt AI tooling thoughtfully to raise team productivity.
• Bring proven experience developing GenAI products, including chatbots and voice AI applications, and AI technologies and tooling, particularly in the GenAI and bot-development space.
• Bring proven experience leading engineering teams across multiple pods, and managing and mentoring teams that include engineering managers and developers.
• Bring proven experience driving product development, scalability and performance improvements, and working closely with product teams to align technical solutions with business needs and customer impact.
• Hold a B.Tech or equivalent qualification.

What will be nice to have?

• Experience building and enhancing AI-driven solutions on top of GenAI APIs, including evaluating model quality, latency and cost in production.
• A record of driving new GenAI projects with a focus on customer satisfaction and business impact.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to execute efficiently under pressure.
• Experience working with cross-functional and distributed stakeholders to communicate technical trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
