Job Summary
The Public Works Director assumes overall administrative, technical, and professional responsibility for the day-to-day operations and physical facilities of the Village of South Chicago Heights. Operating under the general direction of the Village Administrator, the Director oversees vital municipal sectors including streets, parks and grounds, water, sewer, and equipment maintenance. The Director provides logistic and strategic planning for infrastructure projects, manages departmental budgets, coordinates municipal services, and supervises all division personnel to ensure the safety, efficiency, and functionality of the community.
Qualifications
Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of direct work experience in water, sewer, and street maintenance operations. Availability: Must be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (24/7) to respond to municipal emergencies and/or manage the immediate emergency deployment of personnel. Preferred Credentials: A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Water Operator License, and Herbicide License are not required but highly encouraged. Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Village personnel procedures. Strategic Vision: Ability to develop long-term infrastructure programs that enhance community infrastructure while remaining aligned with fiscal limits. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal skills required to prepare technical project reports, deliver financial briefings, and resolve public complaints seamlessly.
