Make an impact on the infrastructure that supports our community

Lower Eyre Council is looking for a Technical & Asset Officer to join our Works team in Cummins.

This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who enjoys combining technical work with practical problem-solving. You’ll work across civil infrastructure, minor projects, asset management and GIS, with the opportunity to get out in the field as well as work alongside our Works and Major Projects teams.

Whether your background is in civil engineering, construction, surveying, asset management or you’ve built strong practical experience in the field, we’d love to hear from you. While relevant industry experience is highly valued, we also welcome recent engineering graduates eager to put their knowledge into practice and build their careers with our team.

About the role

Working closely with the Works Manager, Major Projects team, Works Coordinators and field staff, you’ll provide technical and project support across the delivery, maintenance and renewal of Council infrastructure.

No two days will necessarily look the same. You might be undertaking a site inspection, preparing a design or cost estimate, reviewing access or drainage requirements, coordinating a minor infrastructure project, or updating Council’s asset and GIS information.

Some of the things you’ll be involved in:

  • Providing practical technical advice and support to Council staff and contractors

  • Undertaking site inspections, basic surveying and footpath design

  • Preparing plans, quantities and cost estimates for minor works

  • Coordinating footpath construction, minor asset renewals, road resealing and line marking programs

  • Collecting and analysing traffic data across Council’s road network

  • Assessing applications for works within Council road reserves

  • Assisting with heavy vehicle access requests and road manager responses

  • Providing technical input into development and land division referrals, including access, drainage and impacts on Council infrastructure

  • Managing Before You Dig enquiries and liaising with utility providers

  • Collecting and maintaining accurate asset and GIS information

  • Supporting the maintenance and renewal of Council’s internal communications radio system

  • The scope of responsibilities and level of guidance will reflect the successful applicant’s skills and experience.

We’re looking for someone who is practical, organised and comfortable working with both field and office-based teams.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A qualification in civil engineering, construction, surveying or asset management, or relevant practical experience

  •    Experience in civil infrastructure, construction, maintenance, technical support or minor project coordination

  • A working knowledge of roads, footpaths and drainage

  • The ability to interpret plans and undertake basic surveying, design and quantity calculations

  • Confidence working with technical information, spreadsheets and asset data

  • Good communication, organisation and problem-solving skills

  • Initiative, sound judgement and strong attention to detail

  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively with others

  • A current Class C driver’s licence

  • A Construction Industry White Card, or willingness to obtain one

Graduate applicants are encouraged to highlight relevant university projects, work placements and technical skills, along with their interest in developing practical infrastructure experience.

Why join Lower Eyre Council?

Working with Council gives you the opportunity to be involved in projects and services that you can see making a difference in the communities around you.

Based in Cummins, you’ll have the opportunity to build your career while enjoying everything the region has to offer.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineering and local government professionals across a broad range of projects and infrastructure, with opportunities to strengthen your practical skills and pursue future career progression within Council.

Applications close: 5.00pm, Monday 02 November 2026.
