Qualified Electrician – Queenstown
Smart Sparx Electrical
Full-time | Queenstown and the wider Lakes District
Quality work. A small team. A life outside work.
Looking for varied work, greater responsibility and a small business that genuinely values work-life balance?
Smart Sparx Electrical is looking for an experienced, qualified electrician to join our Queenstown team. We’re a small, family-run business that takes pride in doing the job properly—and understands that a good job should fit alongside a good life.
Whether it’s family commitments, personal interests or making the most of living in Queenstown, we’re open to discussing flexible working arrangements that work for you and the business.
About the role
You’ll work across a range of residential and commercial projects throughout Queenstown and the wider Lakes District, from new builds and alterations to fault-finding and service work.
Depending on the project, you may be working independently, alongside the team or taking the lead on site. You’ll have the autonomy to make decisions, organise your work and see projects through to a quality finish.
Being part of a small team means your contribution matters. You’ll have direct communication with the owners, a voice in how things are done and the opportunity to take real ownership of your work.
What you’ll be doing
Completing residential new builds, renovations and commercial electrical work.
Diagnosing faults and delivering safe, practical solutions.
Reading plans, organising materials and planning work efficiently.
Working independently and taking responsibility for your projects.
Leading and supporting other electricians and apprentices when required.
Communicating professionally with clients, builders and other trades.
Maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and attention to detail.
About you
You know your trade, think logically through problems and take genuine pride in the work you put your name to. You’re comfortable making decisions on site, but also know when to ask questions or lend someone a hand.
You’ll bring:
New Zealand electrical registration and a current practising licence.
Strong technical skills and experience in residential and commercial work.
The ability to read plans, think ahead and find practical solutions.
A reliable, organised approach and clear communication.
A willingness to share your knowledge and support apprentices.
A commitment to quality—not simply getting the job finished.
What we offer
Flexibility around work-life balance, with working arrangements discussed openly and agreed around your needs and project commitments.
A small, supportive team where you’re known, valued and listened to.
Competitive pay based on your experience and capability.
Varied, interesting work across residential and commercial projects.
Trust and autonomy to get on with the job and make sound decisions.
Opportunities to lead projects and develop your skills and career.
A friendly, family-run culture that values good people as much as good workmanship.
About Smart Sparx

We want to create a workplace where good electricians can do work they’re proud of, feel supported and still have time for the things that matter outside work.
