DevOps Engineer
Overview
FinXL IT Professional Services is a leading IT consultancy that partners with clients to bridge the gap between business needs and technology capabilities. Since 2003, we've been delivering high-value ICT services across financial services, telecommunications, government, and enterprise sectors.
We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our team representing FinXL on-site with a major national enterprise retail client in Melbourne. In this role, you will play an integral role in operating and scaling an enterprise-wide infrastructure, platform, and tooling ecosystem that spans multi-cloud environments, data centres, warehouses, and store technology landscapes. Reporting directly to the Cloud & DevOps Engineering Lead, you will develop and promote unified platform engineering approaches, build reusable self-service platforms, and streamline automated delivery pipelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project teams to plan, design, and implement technical solutions across multi-cloud and on-premises enterprise infrastructure.
- Develop and promote unified platform engineering, creating highly reusable self-service components that empower delivery teams to consume platforms autonomously.
- Administer, enhance, and scale technical delivery tools across source control management and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proactively monitor platform infrastructure, drive root cause analysis, and implement preventative measures for system alerts and incidents.
- Implement and maintain controls and processes to embed observability, cloud security, and networking principles into delivery workflows.
- Produce and maintain comprehensive technical resources and act as a DevOps culture advocate across cross-functional engineering teams.
Key Requirements
- Hands-on, practical experience with enterprise DevOps practices and platform engineering.
- Robust technical proficiency across major cloud environments, specifically Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Strong hands-on understanding of technical delivery tools, including Source Control Management (SCM) and Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines (e.g., GitHub, Azure DevOps).
- Deep familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and platform automation platforms such as HashiCorp Cloud Platform (Terraform, Vault).
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complicated technical problems, perform root-cause analysis, and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong collaborative mindset, eagerness to mentor others, and a philosophy of continuous learning and technical experimentation.
- Valid Australian working rights with no restrictions.
Desirable Skills
- Exposure to observability platforms, telemetry, and proactive system monitoring tools.
- Understanding of core networking principles (routing, firewalls, DNS) and security tools/gateways (Cloudflare, Apigee).
- Familiarity with software engineering concepts (.NET, Node.js) to better tailor platforms for developer experience.
- Experience across hybrid ecosystems involving physical hardware, virtualisation (VMware Cloud Foundation), or large-scale retail supply chain/store environments.
