Independent Petroleum Laboratory (IPL) is a fully independent IANZ accredited laboratory that provides fuels, industrial and environmental laboratory testing services to a wide range of customers throughout New Zealand and the South West Pacific.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Chemist (SME) to support our Quality & Technical (Q&T) team. This role is best suited to someone with practical laboratory experience who enjoys hands-on work, solving problems and working carefully with equipment and data.

What you’ll be doing

·         Assisting with routine equipment calibration and verification.

·         Supporting routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and performance checks.

·         Maintain and ensure continuous improvements in laboratory processes and procedures 

·         Maintaining equipment registers, calibration schedules, certificates and quality records.

·         Assisting with method verification, validation trials and technical investigations.

·         Following laboratory safety procedures and keeping work areas clean and organised.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

• A qualification in chemistry, applied science or laboratory technology, or equivalent relevant laboratory training.

• Familiarity with laboratory quality systems, including ISO/IEC 17025

• A sound foundation in chemistry, numeracy and safe laboratory practices.

• Digital confidence with good written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

• Experience in an analytical, petroleum or industrial laboratory.

• Exposure to equipment calibration, quality control testing or laboratory information management systems.
