About the role
Stoneypeak Petlodge is seeking a part-time Kennel Hand/Dog Handler to join our team in Morrinsville, Waikato. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic animal care environment where you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety and happiness of our canine guests. As a Kennel Hand/Dog Handler, you will be responsible for the day-to-day care and management of dogs whilst they are staying with us, contributing directly to the quality of service we provide to our clients and the wellbeing of the animals in our care.
This job requires someone that can work every second weekend.
We work on a roster system. Am & Pm shifts.
What you'll be doing
Providing daily care for dogs including feeding, watering and maintaining clean and hygienic kennels
Exercising and socialising dogs to ensure they receive appropriate physical activity and mental stimulation
Monitoring dogs' health and behaviour, and reporting any concerns to management or veterinary staff
Cleaning and sanitising kennels, outdoor runs and communal areas to maintain high standards of hygiene
Assisting with the safe handling and restraint of dogs during grooming, feeding and general care activities
Observing dogs for signs of illness, injury or behavioural issues and documenting observations accurately
Supporting the team during busy periods, including check-in and check-out procedures
Following all health and safety protocols and animal welfare guidelines at all times
What we're looking for
Experience working with dogs and a genuine passion for animal care and welfare
Strong physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks regularly
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene
Reliable, responsible and punctual approach to work
Ability to remain calm and composed when handling animals and managing demanding situations
Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
Basic understanding of dog behaviour and temperament
Willingness to learn and develop skills in animal handling and care
A current or willingness to obtain relevant animal care or veterinary nursing qualifications would be advantageous
