ROLE OVERVIEW
This role drives the technical execution of a large-scale infrastructure modernisation programme, focusing on enterprise server, virtualisation, and hosting environments. You will architect, build, harden, and transition enterprise platforms while executing complex workload migrations. The position requires translating technical requirements into validated designs, deployable artefacts, and precise migration runbooks across multiple classified and unclassified infrastructure environments. You will partner with Project Managers, Solution Architects, Cyber Security, and vendor specialists to ensure secure, resilient infrastructure is handed over to business-as-usual operations.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Evaluate legacy server and virtualisation environments to map technical dependencies, identify deployment constraints, and document platform readiness gaps prior to migration.
Develop high-level and low-level designs for target hosting platforms, defining configuration baselines for host builds, clustering, management access, and security hardening.
Deploy and optimise enterprise compute and virtualisation clusters, configuring shared storage, host networking, and storage presentation.
Validate physical and logical connections before production deployment, including physical data centre commissioning and cabling validation.
Plan and execute pilot and production migration waves using detailed cutover and rollback runbooks.
Manage workload conversions and validate migrated environments against performance, security, and business criteria.
Conduct failover, recovery, and operational acceptance testing to ensure platform baselines meet cyber security requirements.
Act as the primary technical authority for infrastructure deployment, managing dependencies across delivery teams and escalating operational blockers.
Produce as-built documentation and standard operating procedures, facilitating formal knowledge transfer to upskill operational teams for service transition.
MORE ABOUT YOU
Extensive practical experience designing, operating, and optimising enterprise virtualisation platforms, specifically Hyper-V, covering clustering, high availability, and workload mobility.
Deep expertise in the Microsoft Windows Server ecosystem, including OS deployment, patching, Active Directory integration, Group Policy management, and privileged access controls.
Proven track record of executing complex infrastructure migrations, encompassing wave planning, dependency mapping, tool selection, and post-migration stabilisation.
Comprehensive understanding of enterprise-grade compute, Storage Area Networks (SAN), Fibre Channel, backup integrations, and core networking principles.
Practical experience operating within highly segregated, classified, or secure network zones requiring stringent logical separation and management access controls.
Exceptional capability in authoring deployment plans, architecture designs, migration runbooks, and operational handover artefacts.
Relevant industry certifications across enterprise server, virtualisation, or hybrid cloud technologies.
Prior experience delivering infrastructure projects within Australian Government, defence, or heavily regulated enterprise environments.
Familiarity with modern observability, service management, and backup integration tooling.
Proven ability to execute critical service transitions during restricted change windows.
