About GRIT Engineering
GRIT Engineering exists to engineer a better way — helping asset owners and operators maximise value from infrastructure and industrial assets through rigorous risk assessment and practical, fit‑for‑purpose solutions.
The opportunity
We are looking for a smart, hands-on Asset Integrity Inspector with strong practical judgement, a maintenance mindset and the confidence to operate in live environments. We welcome people with a trade background (e.g., structural, construction, project engineering, mechanical, coatings, fabrication, or inspection) as well as those with a diploma or practical hands-on experience. The ideal candidate is someone who is ready to take the next step into more technical engineering work, practical curious and the drive to learn and develop their career.
This is more than just an inspector role. We are looking for someone who can perform high-quality condition assessments and use their knowledge and experience to provide risk-based, pragmatic, fit-for-purpose recommendations and solutions to maximise value for our clients.
Types of assets you’ll work on will include industrial plant and equipment, infrastructure assets, brownfield sites, and a mix of construction, maintenance and remediation work. This is not a “tick-the-box” inspection role. We are looking for someone whose judgement is trusted, who understands risk in context, and who can clearly communicate what matters and why.
What you’ll be doing
Inspect asset integrity and complete whole-of-asset condition assessments across industrial and infrastructure sites
Perform condition assessments on a wide range of infrastructure assets and provide risk-based, pragmatic, fit-for-purpose recommendations and solutions
Apply objective thinking, root cause analysis and asset lifecycle thinking to translate site observations into practical, defensible recommendations that stakeholders can rely on for decision-making.
Work on live sites and liaise directly with owners and contractors
Turn observations into clear, defensible findings and reports
Explain risk and implications clearly to clients and key stakeholders
Support incident/failure investigations with field-based insight
Develop maintenance scopes, specifications and QA requirements; contribute to estimates and proposals as needed
Act as key team member for asset integrity and inspection projects, including oversight of HSE, quality, schedule and cost
Champion safety and professionalism
What you’ll need to bring
Relevant diploma/engineering qualification or a relevant trade background (strong practical experience is essential)
Hands‑on experience in asset integrity inspections or assessments
Ability to produce inspection reports that stand up to scrutiny and provide risk-based, fit-for-purpose solutions
A strong learning mindset — curious, coachable and motivated to build deeper technical engineering knowledge across new assets, failure mechanisms and practical remediation options
Clear communicator who can explain complex information in simple terms
Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with project teams; project engineering or coordination experience is an advantage
Current driver license with the ability to travel across the Auckland region with occasional national travel
AMPP / NACE Coating Inspector certification (Level 1, 2 or 3), or an equivalent high-level coatings certification, is highly regarded but not essential
The desire to absorb technical knowledge quickly, ask good questions and apply learning in practical settings
We are looking for practical capability and learning potential as much as existing technical skills.
