Most people who deal with lawyers remember waiting: for a reply, for an update, for a bill they did not expect.
Our clients don't. This role is a big part of why.
About PK Law
PK Law is a senior led boutique private client and relationship property practice. We assist clients with private client and relationship property and focus exclusively on these two areas of law.
Our practice is built around the client experience. The usual frustrations people have with lawyers (slow replies, little communication, delegation, unpredictable bills) have no place here. We cap the number of matters we take on so that every client receives the attention they deserve. We have used fixed fees and value pricing since the firm was established, so clients know the cost before work begins. This means we can focus fully on delivering the work and building lasting relationships with our clients, rather than tracking time or chasing payments. For those matters where we still charge based on time, we are very eager to transition to fixed fee and value based pricing in 2027.
Technology is central to how we operate. We choose our systems to make things easier for clients and the team, with prompt responses, clear updates and matters that keep moving without clients having to chase us. We are very keen on AI and are of the view that it is just a matter of time before every legal practice would have to adopt AI, whether they want to or not. We think that an "AI Native Law Firm" concept is a great business model which enhances further the value based pricing concept.
We are also deliberate about the work we accept. If we cannot take something on promptly, we would rather say so than leave a client waiting. We take on clients whose values match ours and who appreciate specialist advice. Our approach has helped us build strong referral relationships and a practice that is growing quickly (and runs calmly).
We are looking for someone to join us at this next stage. This is our first (permanent) dedicated support role, and we expect to recruit a senior lawyer next.
The role
This is a new role at the centre of the practice. You will work directly with the Director, Polina Kozlova, helping run the business, look after clients and build the systems that will support the firm's growth.
The role combines four areas: client care and new business, operations, marketing and occasional legal support. It will suit someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership and wants to understand how a business works, rather than being responsible for just one narrow function.
Client care and new business will be a core part of your role. You will often be the first person a prospective client speaks to, and your communication can make the difference between someone choosing PK Law or going elsewhere.
Many of our clients come to us during difficult periods in their lives, including separation, bereavement and planning for future incapacity. You will need to balance warmth and empathy with professionalism, sound judgement and commercial confidence.
Your first few months
Initially, you will help build the foundations for the next stage of the practice. Working with the Director, you will improve our software workflows, organise and maintain our precedents, and document how the firm operates.
You will have the opportunity to make a real difference to how the practice runs. We are looking for someone who enjoys organising information, learning new systems and finding better ways to do things.
You do not need to know our systems or the legal side of the work already. We will teach you. What matters is your ability to learn, think logically and follow things through.
As these foundations are established, the focus will shift further towards day-to-day client care, operations and business development.
Client care and new business
Be the first point of contact for prospective and existing clients, responding promptly and professionally.
Understand prospective clients' needs, explain our services and fixed fees, answer questions and follow up to help suitable clients decide whether to proceed.
Manage client intake, onboarding, correspondence and follow-ups.
Manage the Director's diary and coordinate signing appointments.
Keep matters moving and ensure clients know what is happening and what comes next.
Recognise when an enquiry is not suitable for the firm or needs to be referred elsewhere.
Operations and systems
Open files and manage documents and records in our practice management system.
Help configure and improve our software workflows and make better use of technology.
Build AI prompts, workflows and skills
Organise and maintain legal precedents, working with the Director to develop new ones.
Write and maintain standard operating procedures so the firm runs consistently and efficiently.
Help onboard future team members and train them in our systems.
Identify inefficiencies and take the initiative to improve how things are done.
Marketing
Generate ideas for social media content that reflect the firm's approach and expertise.
Create Instagram stories, reels and other short-form content.
Manage posts on the firm's LinkedIn page.
Prepare and send email newsletters.
You do not need to be a marketing specialist, but you should have an eye for good content and be comfortable creating short videos and posts. Canva or similar experience is an advantage.
Legal support
From time to time, you may assist with straightforward legal work under the Director's supervision, such as preparing documents or reviewing disclosure in relationship property matters.
Legal experience is helpful but not essential. We are happy to train the right person.
About you
You do not need to have worked in a law firm. Sales, client service and commercial skills matter more to us than legal experience, and those skills can be difficult to teach.
You might come from sales, hospitality, customer service, account management or another professional environment. You might have a business degree and a few years of work experience. What matters most is how you think, communicate and approach your work.
We are looking for someone who:
Takes ownership. You follow things through, anticipate what needs doing and do not need every task prescribed for you.
Is highly organised. You are accurate, manage competing priorities and make sure things do not fall through the cracks.
Communicates exceptionally well. You are clear, warm and professional in writing and on the phone.
Has emotional intelligence. You can relate to people from different backgrounds and handle difficult or emotional conversations with tact and care.
Is commercially confident. You are comfortable explaining value, discussing fees, answering questions and asking for a decision without putting people under pressure.
Is comfortable with technology. You learn new systems quickly and enjoy finding ways to make processes work better.
AI curious. You are AI literate and get excited about responsible AI use & implementation. You are keen to learn about AI use and rules around the use of AI in a legal practice.
Thinks in systems. You like bringing order to things, documenting how they work and improving them.
Is discreet and trustworthy. You understand the importance of confidentiality and sound judgement in a legal practice.
Has an eye for content. You enjoy communicating ideas and are comfortable creating short social media posts and videos.
Legal or professional services experience is an advantage, but not a requirement. Canva or similar design skills are also a plus.
Room to grow
As the firm grows, the role will evolve around your strengths. You may find that your particular strengths lie in client care, operations, marketing or legal work. We will look to build the team around those strengths and recruit additional people to take on other responsibilities.
As the first person in the support team, you will have the opportunity to help shape how that team operates. For the right person, there is a genuine pathway towards managing the practice's operations and the people who join after you.
We value initiative and good work, and we want people to develop their skills and take on greater responsibility as the business grows.
Working with us
Flexible hours: We are open to part-time or full-time arrangements, depending on the right person.
Location: The role is initially based at our Queen Street, Auckland office. Hybrid working is available once you are settled in.
Development: Training and professional development support to help you build skills that last.
Opportunity: A varied role with scope to influence how the practice operates and grow with the business.
Modern ways of working: No timesheets, no invoice chasing, and systems designed around the client.
We set high standards, value people who take responsibility and will recognize strong performance through development, remuneration and opportunities to take on more as the firm grows.
How to apply
Apply through SEEK with your CV and a short cover letter telling us about yourself and why this role suits you. We want to know more about you personally, rather than just your experience & credentials.
We review applications every Monday, so we encourage you to apply early. Applications will close on 16 November 2026 (earlier if we find "our person" prior to the cut off date).
We look forward to hearing from you.
