Warehouse Operations, Material Handling & Steel Distribution
Openwork is hiring an experienced Warehouse Associate for an established steel distribution company in Houston, TX 77041.
This hands-on position involves pulling customer orders, loading and unloading materials, operating forklifts and overhead cranes, and supporting daily warehouse operations.
Qualified candidates must have at least 2 years of warehouse, material handling, or related industrial experience. Bilingual English/Spanish skills are highly preferred, along with forklift or overhead crane experience. Steel industry experience is a plus but not required.
Position Details:
- Location: Houston, TX 77041
- Pay: $17.50/hr | Weekly Pay
- Schedule: Mon–Fri, 11:30 AM–8:00 PM
- Training: Mon–Fri, 9:00 AM–6:00 PM until completed
- Shift: 2nd Shift
- Employment: Full-Time
- Overtime: Required as needed, including short or last-minute notice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pull and prepare customer orders using pick tickets.
- Operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move materials.
- Load, unload, and organize warehouse materials.
- Verify material sizes, quantities, and grades.
- Handle structural steel, pipes, and steel plates.
- Assist with cutting and measuring materials.
- Check order accuracy and complete paperwork.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Follow warehouse and equipment safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of warehouse, material handling, or related industrial experience required.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills highly preferred.
- Forklift, overhead crane, or similar equipment experience preferred.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Steel warehouse or manufacturing experience is a plus.
- Experience loading, unloading, and handling heavy materials.
- Ability to read pick tickets and use measuring tools.
- Basic math skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Dependable attendance and teamwork skills.
- Must be available for short-notice or last-minute overtime.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to meet pre-employment background and drug/alcohol screening requirements.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Industrial warehouse and steel distribution environment.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
- Use of forklifts, overhead cranes, and warehouse equipment.
- Required PPE and workplace safety procedures.
