The opportunity
Technology is changing how software is built, and we are ready to take the next step.
We are looking for an AI Engineering Lead to lead our move towards an AI-first delivery model. You will take ownership of our AI-assisted development lifecycle, provide full-stack technical direction and help our developers build confidence and capability in AI-assisted engineering.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will help shape solution architecture, establish practical engineering standards and make AI-assisted development a safe, effective and everyday part of how we deliver software.
The role has no formal direct reports, but you will provide technical leadership across the development team and act as a key point of escalation for complex engineering and architecture decisions.
What you’ll be doing
Owning and continuously improving our AI-assisted development lifecycle, including the agents, tools, patterns and guardrails used by the team
Setting standards for agent and prompt design, quality controls and the safe, auditable use of AI in software development
Identifying practical ways to improve delivery speed and software quality through AI-assisted engineering
Providing technical leadership across our full technology stack
Shaping solution architecture for major features and modernisation work
Making and clearly communicating cross-platform design decisions
Ensuring solutions are secure, robust, maintainable and aligned with our application architecture
Upskilling developers in AI-assisted and full-stack ways of working
Developing onboarding and knowledge-sharing practices for AI tools and engineering approaches
Setting consistent engineering standards and helping resolve complex technical challenges
Contributing to our technical roadmap and wider engineering direction
About you
You are a highly capable senior engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and helping others grow.
You combine hands-on technical depth with sound judgement and clear communication. You can move comfortably between detailed engineering work, broader architecture decisions and conversations about technical direction.
Most importantly, you have practical experience using AI-assisted or agentic development in a production software environment. You understand that successful AI adoption requires more than introducing new tools. It needs appropriate standards, guardrails, quality controls and a team that knows how to use the technology effectively.
You’ll bring:
Hands-on experience leading AI-assisted or agentic software development
Experience building or operating AI development agents, tooling or an AI-assisted delivery capability in a production environment
Strong full-stack engineering experience across complex systems and modern web front-ends
Experience with SQL and stored procedures, .NET Core/C# or equivalent technologies
Solution or application architecture experience within an enterprise software environment
Experience leading technical design, setting engineering standards and mentoring developers
At least five years’ enterprise software development experience
A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience
Experience in any of the following would be an advantage:
Life or Health insurance software
Legacy platform modernisation
WCF or net.tcp
Containerisation
Microsoft Azure, Azure DevOps or Azure OpenAI
Embedding ISO 27001, SOC 2 or NZISM requirements into software development practices
Microsoft, cloud or AI engineering certifications
Why join us?
You will have the opportunity to influence how AI-assisted software engineering is introduced and embedded across an established software business.
You can also expect:
A role with genuine influence over our technical direction
Complex, meaningful engineering challenges
The opportunity to build AI capability across an experienced development team
Flexible hybrid working from our Rosedale office
A strong focus on professional growth and continuous learning
Access to the wider knowledge and opportunities available through Volaris Group
Monthly team celebrations
Free on-site parking
Inclusion in our company bonus scheme
Our culture is dedicated, supportive, flexible and humble. We value technical expertise, practical thinking, long-term customer relationships and people who share their knowledge freely.
Interested?
If you are excited by the opportunity to lead meaningful AI adoption, shape engineering practice and help an experienced team move confidently into AI-assisted delivery, we would love to hear from you.
Please include a cover letter with your CV explaining your hands-on experience with AI-assisted or agentic software development and why this opportunity interests you.
