Looking for a role where you can do more?

Combine orthodontics and oral health therapy in one varied role.

Are you an Oral Health Therapist who enjoys variety, loves working with patients and wants to make the most of your clinical skills?

Embrace Orthodontics is looking for a full-time Registered Oral Health Therapist to join our friendly and supportive team in Invercargill.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine your interest in orthodontics with hands-on oral health therapy. You'll be involved as an orthodontic auxiliary while also having the opportunity to provide clinical treatments within your scope of practice, including oral hygiene therapy and extractions.

Rather than being limited to one type of dentistry, you'll enjoy a varied role that allows you to contribute to different aspects of patient care, continue developing your clinical skills and build meaningful relationships with patients throughout their treatment journey.

Whether you're an experienced OHT or a recent graduate looking for a supportive environment to grow your confidence, we'd love to hear from you!

What your week will look like

Your typical 40-hour week will include a mix of oral hygiene and orthodontic responsibilities:

  • Monday: Orthodontic duties – Invercargill | 8:20am–5:00pm

  • Tuesday: Orthodontic duties – Invercargill | 8:20am–5:00pm (30-minute lunch)
Twice a month: Travel to Gore for orthodontic duties | 8:00am–5:45pm

  • Wednesday: Orthodontic duties – Invercargill | 8:20am–5:00pm

  • Thursday: Oral hygiene appointments every second week; orthodontic duties on alternate Thursdays – Invercargill | 8:20am–5:00pm

  • Friday: Orthodontic duties – Invercargill | 8:20am–5:00pm

What you'll be doing

You'll enjoy a varied role that combines orthodontics with oral health therapy, including:

  • Orthodontic Auxiliary: Supporting the orthodontist during appointments and helping deliver efficient, high-quality patient care.

  • Oral health therapy: Providing clinical treatments within your registered scope of practice, including eligible extraction procedures.

  • Oral hygiene: Delivering professional hygiene treatments, including EMS Airflow where appropriate, and helping patients maintain healthy teeth and gums.

  • Patient education: Educating and motivating patients to maintain excellent oral hygiene, particularly throughout orthodontic treatment.

  • Patient relationships: Creating a positive, welcoming experience and helping patients feel comfortable and confident in the chair.

  • Clinical teamwork: Collaborating with the wider team to keep appointments running smoothly and provide excellent care.

  • Clinical records and compliance: Maintaining accurate records and working in accordance with professional standards and relevant regulations.

  • Professional development: Continuing to build your orthodontic knowledge and clinical confidence with support from the team.

You'll have the opportunity to use your OHT skills while developing your experience in specialist orthodontics, making this a great fit for someone who enjoys both the clinical and patient-focused sides of dentistry.
