About the role
We are seeking enthusiastic and skilled Baristas and All rounder/Front of House staff to join the opening team at Cafe Elia Ōmōkihi, our new café opening this December inside Ōmōkihi, Christchurch's new South Library in Beckenham – a riverside site with a large outdoor deck and a steady flow of library visitors. As All rounder/ front-of-house staff, you will be the face of the café, delivering great coffee and warm, efficient service.
Key responsibilities
Greeting and welcoming guests with genuine warmth and professionalism
Making consistent, high-quality espresso coffee on a commercial machine
Taking orders and processing payments efficiently and accurately on the POS
Running food, clearing tables and keeping the counter, dining area and deck clean and presentable
Maintaining cabinet presentation and stock levels throughout the day
Providing knowledgeable recommendations about our menu
Handling guest queries with patience and professionalism
Working collaboratively with the kitchen and team to ensure smooth service
Supporting opening and close-down of the café, including dishes and cleaning
About you
Barista (full time/ part time): 2+ years on a commercial machine in a busy café; opening the café and set the coffee standard
All rounder/ FOH (full time/ part time): no experience required, coffee skills a bonus – could be ideal for students
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to engage guests and create a welcoming atmosphere
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, particularly during peak service times
A flexible and positive attitude towards a 7-day daytime roster: No late nights
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Attention to detail and commitment to high standards of cleanliness and presentation
Valid NZ work rights (citizen, resident or open work visa)
