About the role
Waitaki Girls’ High School is seeking a positive and supportive person to work alongside an incoming Year 9 student who requires sign language support.
Ideally, the successful applicant will already be proficient in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL). However, we would also welcome applications from people who have some signing experience, or who have a genuine willingness and enthusiasm to learn NZSL and develop their skills.
The role will involve supporting the student to access classroom learning, communicate with teachers and peers, and participate fully in school life.
We are looking for someone who is:
· Patient, encouraging and able to build positive relationships with young people
· Reliable and well organised
· Comfortable working collaboratively with teachers and learning support staff
· Proficient in NZSL, or strongly committed to learning and developing their signing skills
· Positive, adaptable and willing to support the student across a range of learning environments.
Experience working with young people or within a school environment would be an advantage but is not essential.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference for a young person as she begins her secondary school journey at Waitaki Girls’ High School.
