About the Role
McConnell Dowell is seeking an experienced Transport & Rigging Supervisor to join our team in Tonga. This role is responsible for coordinating and supervising transport logistics, Hiab operations, rigging and lifting activities across the project.
You’ll ensure construction materials, equipment and plant are transported, loaded, unloaded and positioned safely and efficiently to support project delivery. From coordinating vehicle movements and delivery schedules to overseeing rigging equipment and supervising lifting crews, you’ll help ensure the right resources are in the right place at the right time.
Working closely with the Superintendent, construction teams, transport operators and subcontractors, you’ll coordinate daily operations, manage equipment requirements and ensure transport and rigging activities meet project safety and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities
Transport & Logistics
- Coordinate daily transport activities, vehicle movements and material deliveries across the project.
- Plan and manage the movement of construction materials, equipment and plant to meet site requirements and construction schedules.
- Oversee the safe loading, unloading, securing and positioning of materials and equipment.
- Coordinate Hiab truck operations, ensuring loads are handled and transported safely.
- Work with site teams, suppliers and subcontractors to manage delivery schedules, access requirements and unloading locations.
- Monitor the availability, utilisation and condition of transport vehicles and equipment.
- Identify transport delays, access issues and logistical challenges, taking action to minimise disruption to construction activities.
- Supervise rigging and lifting activities, ensuring work is appropriately planned and carried out safely.
- Coordinate lifting crews, equipment and resources to support construction activities.
- Oversee the safe use of Hiab trucks, rigging gear, lifting equipment and associated accessories.
- Ensure lifting equipment is inspected, maintained and fit for purpose, with registers and inspection records kept up to date.
- Ensure lifting plans, risk assessments and JSEAs are completed and understood before work begins.
- Monitor lifting operations and ensure load limits, exclusion zones and safe working practices are maintained.
