**We keep hiring more Manfredites for Joko!**
Can you imagine online shopping being as simple as whispering *Alohomora* to unlock exactly what you need at the best price without wasting half your life comparing tabs?
Well, that is precisely what the team at **Joko** is building: the new entryway to *AI-powered smart shopping*. This Paris-founded *scale-up* and certified B Corp already empowers over 6 million users across Europe and is now landing with full force in the US.
To sustain this growth, they are looking for a **Senior Software Engineer** with crystal-clear communication and endless curiosity. If you believe the future of shopping is still being written... just keep reading!
**Before diving in...a bit of context**
Joko was born in Xavier’s living room, but it wasn’t just any ordinary living room: that was the birthplace of an idea designed to change online shopping forever. Three friends (Xavier, Alexandre, and Nicolas) joined forces back in 2018 driven by a single obsession: **making online shopping easy, efficient, and free from the hassle of losing half your life hopping from tab to tab.**
They brought heavy backpacks filled with experience: Xavier had led a travel portal at Jumia (Africa's largest e-commerce platform), Alexandre came from building scalable technology at Criteo, and Nicolas had a solid background in demanding sectors like banking. Safe to say, they are deeply knowledgeable industry insiders who truly know their stuff.
During their years in e-commerce, they realized that **the online buying process still had more friction than an episode of *Succession***. So, they decided to **create a platform that would help people** make smarter purchasing decisions, save a few bucks, and do it all using cutting-edge technology and data as their guiding star.
Here's how Xavier, CEO and co-founder, tells it himself

Today, Joko is a[ **certified B Corp** ](https://medium.com/jokoapp/joko-is-b-corp-certified-c26459f57afa)helping over 7 **million users** save money at **more than 50,000 stores**. And they’re just getting started. They’re expanding fast in the US, and their actual big quest is building Juno, an AI-powered shopping assistant that knows what you want, recommends products with real intelligence, and helps you save money without breaking a sweat.
Also, they launched Juno just now, [look at here](https://lnkd.in/p/eWhcHYNx)!
Joko products not only offer automatic cashback but also **automatic coupons**, **price drop alerts,** **carbon footprint tracking,** and even a **buy now**, **pay later system.**
But what we *really* love about Joko — and we say this with a full heart and full mouth — is the way they work: **radical transparency**, open access to information (yes, even board presentations), real trust in the team, and a principle we adore: *“Culture is the product we build for our people.”*
Don’t just take our word for it 😉 — [ check out their vision on tech and product ](https://medium.com/jokoapp/how-we-do-tech-and-product-at-joko-ef15ba1baf0d) and see for yourself.
**So… what will I be doing day-to-day?**
Well, fellow manfredite, you’ll be part of a **versatile, product-minded engineering team** that doesn’t shy away from a challenge. They’re looking for people who can float between frontend, backend, mobile, infrastructure, or AI — without sweating the stack.
Your mission? Not just to write code, but to **turn complex ideas into elegant solutions**, **own projects end-to-end**, and collaborate with product and data teams to maximize real-world impact. You’ll ship things that matter — and track how they land.
- **Translate ideas into software:** Whether the spark comes from Product, Ops, or the secret AI lab, you’ll know how to turn a vision into a solid, functional architecture — both on the frontend and the backend.
- **Tackle complex challenges:** When there’s no manual to follow, that’s your cue. You’ll dive into high-voltage technical problems, roll up your sleeves, and use creativity (and lots of testing) to craft real, working solutions.
- **Own your projects end-to-end:** You’ll build, deploy, and work hand-in-hand with Product and Data teams to understand the real-world impact of what you’ve created.
- **Mentorship and technical leadership:** You don’t need to be a lead to have influence. You’ll review specs, give constructive PR feedback, join in on pair/mob programming, and share knowledge with your teammates.
- **Bridge tech and business:** You’ll work closely with folks from Product and Ops to ensure that technical decisions align with business goals.
- **Improve processes and tools:** There’s always room to work smarter. You’ll help refine how the team works, making sure speed never comes at the cost of quality.
We are going to prioritize profiles who
- Have **previous experience building products in production**, especially in **B2C product startups or scale-ups with millions of recurring users.**
- Know how to solve complex problems and can tell us about it. They must have **impeccable** **technical storytelling:** explaining what you do well is not optional, it is part of the job.
- Have a keen eye for **writing elegant and maintainable code.**
Joko is looking for people who want to make a real impact, not just tick boxes or complete tasks.
They highly value **diversity**: their team is made up of profiles with very different backgrounds (entrepreneurs, engineers, PhDs, people with machine learning or AI expertise...) who are not afraid to tackle any challenge that comes their way.
Although their entire stack is **TypeScript** (React, React Native, Node, AWS…), they are not looking for carbon copies of their current stack. Instead, they want people with a solid foundation who are **technology-agnostic** and **fast learners.** If you come from Python, Go, or Rust and have a product mindset, there is a place for you here.
Additionally, this is what will make a difference
- **Bilingual level of English**.
- A genuine interest in **AI** and habitual use of Artificial Intelligence tools in your day-to-day workflow.
- **Clear, humble, and positive communication:** if you drain the room like a Dementor, this is not the place for you.
- **Curiosity about the product, the company, and its mission.**
And if on top of that, you bring an **ownership mindset,** enjoy learning from others, and are eager to get your hands dirty in decision-making, you will likely fit like a glove.
✨ A benefits pack that even Hogwarts students would envy:
- 🏖️**29 holidays**
- 🧘♂️ **ClassPass** for gym membership & fitness sessions
- 🏥 **Best-in-class health insurance**, e.g., Alan in France
- 📚 **1. 000€ yearly training budget** to grow and learn
- 💻 **Apple MacBook** provided for work
- 🌍 **Work from anywhere** — you can work abroad for up to 3 months/year, depending on the country
- 🏠 Coworking spaces
- 🥳 **Team building budget** to connect and celebrate
- 💚 **ProBono time** — 1 day per quarter for volunteering during working hours
This position is **100% remote from Spain**, although high priority is given to candidates based in **Barcelona or Madrid**, or those with easy train connections to Barcelona.
**The main point is that you live somewhere well-connected** (hence prioritizing Barcelona or Madrid) because, from time to time, there will be team meetings or events in Paris or Barcelona, and they’d love for you to drop by without having to tame logistical dragons.
Now, if you happen to live in Barcelona, you’ll be super close to their coworking space near Urquinaona and can stop by whenever you fancy: to see friendly faces, bounce ideas around, or simply steal a few branded pens.

Never alone...because you are not going to be the only manfredite inside!
You'll join [**Joko’s Engineering team** ](https://joko.notion.site/Meet-the-teams-949d5762b23e4dd6aafa6cdd16513eb5)— a crew of senior engineers with rock-solid and diverse backgrounds, from ex-Google and other big corps folks to PhDs in Machine Learning. It’s a team that builds with brainpower, curiosity, and real camaraderie — not just lines of code.
You’ll work closely with one of the Engineering Managers, the VP of engineering, who not only steers part of the technical ship but knows what it means to build product from scratch. And you’ll also have a direct line to **Alexandre**, co-founder and CTO, who’s still deeply involved in Joko’s tech strategy.
Even though the team is spread across Paris, Barcelona, and other corners of Europe, collaboration runs so deep you’ll feel like they’re sitting right next to you — minus the awkward lunchbox negotiations.
Just like no two classes at Hogwarts are the same, no two days at Joko look alike either. The team works in ***task forces*** — cross-functional squads formed around the company’s quarterly priorities. No rigid sprints, no endless meetings — just focus on what really moves the needle. Tasks are prioritized by Product, and you’ll have the autonomy to pick the next project, bring logic, creativity, and collaboration to the table, and drive it to completion.
While they’re tech-agnostic when it comes to hiring, the stack is sharp and clean: everything runs on **TypeScript** (both backend and frontend), with React and React Native. Infrastructure is fully managed in **AWS** (Lambda, DynamoDB, S3), so you can focus on code without server headaches. GitLab takes care of version control and CI/CD.
Code is written with care: there's a strong culture of **testing, constant code reviews, pair/mob programming, and shared decision-making.** The team syncs briefly every other day, and sometimes in some task forces, they have a *cooldown* — time you get to use however you like: learning something new, refactoring, or prototyping ideas that might benefit the product and the business.
And if you thought this was just about code → nope 🙂↔️. Communication matters. A lot. **Talking, writing, explaining clearly and kindly** — that’s all part of the job. Written culture is embedded everywhere, and clear, empathetic communication is key. Because at the end of the day, software isn’t built by machines — it’s built by people.
