About the role
This is the sole technician position. You'll be the person our customers rely on, and the person who owns our service capability end to end. You'll take ownership of the maintenance side of the business and grow it, with full backing.
Key responsibilities
- Carrying out preventative maintenance, diagnostics and breakdown repairs at customer sites nationwide
- Diagnosing faults across battery-electric, diesel and LPG drivelines, plus hydraulic, mechanical and electronic systems
- Working from electrical schematics to trace and fix faults properly, first time
- Writing clear, accurate service reports and machine condition assessments
- Quoting chargeable repairs and identifying parts and service opportunities
- Planning your own run, van stock and preventative maintenance schedule
- Training customer operators on correct machine use
About you
- Trade qualification — Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Automotive Engineer, Auto Electrician or equivalent
- Hands-on experience with battery-electric, diesel and LPG powered equipment
- Genuine diagnostic ability — a methodical fault-finder, not a parts-swapper
- Confidence reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Full, clean NZ driver licence
- Excellent spoken and written English, and the ability to explain technical issues plainly to customers
- Highly organised and genuinely self-managing — this role runs on your initiative
- Reliability. You're the sole technician; if a machine is down, you're the one who solves it
- Willingness to travel nationally occasionally, including the odd overnight
Benefits
- Fully equipped service vehicle, mobile phone and laptop
- Standard 40-hour week, Monday to Friday, with overtime available by mutual agreement
- Factory training and ongoing technical support from Hako worldwide
- Real autonomy, and the chance to build and lead the service side of an established business
- A small, supportive team where your work is visible and valued
About us
Divergent NZ Limited, trading as Hako NZ, holds the exclusive New Zealand distribution rights for Hako and PowerBoss — German-engineered sweepers, scrubber-driers and municipal machines working in warehouses, factories, transport yards and councils right across the country. Hako has been building this gear since 1948, so the machines are properly engineered and you'll have factory-level documentation, parts and specialist support behind you. We bought this business in 2024 and we're now investing in the service side.
