When the founders of Goodnature established the company twenty years ago they didn’t get into the trapping business for the profits, they got into it for the planet. They believe the world is better off with fewer pests and toxins. Originally designed to eradicate pests in the most remote parts of New Zealand, their traps are now tackling the world’s pest problems – everything from rats and mice to grey squirrels and mongoose. Their products have won numerous design awards and Goodnature has been recognised as one of the Fast Company’s Most Innovative companies. It is a true New Zealand success story that has been driven by innovation and the perseverance of a dedicated and talented team operating from their Wellington HQ.

Because of the breadth and scale of the global market, and Goodnature’s products success in eradicating a broad range of the world’s pest species, the company is experiencing dramatic growth. This role has been established to prepare the business for significant scaling to meet increased production capacity and key Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) reduction initiatives.

What will you be doing?

Reporting to the Head of Operations this new role will play a critical part in transitioning the supply of raw materials and packaging from a purchasing function and reactive troubleshooting to structured strategic sourcing and formal commercial partnerships. This is not a ‘squeeze them until they bleed’ role but instead Goodnature is focused on futureproofing the business through the implementation of improved systems and the development of mutually beneficial supplier relationships.

Key elements of the role:
  • Supplier Contracting – negotiating and establishing formal, long-term commercial agreements across key suppliers to lock in favourable pricing, lead times, supply commitments and service levels.
  • Secondary Sourcing – identify, evaluate and quality secondary suppliers for critical components to eliminate single-source dependencies and mitigate supply failure risks.
  • Vendor Management – actively manage and monitor supplier performance, deliver accountability and lead-time reliability across the vendor base.
  • Cost Management - design and lead a structured COGS-down initiative across existing component pricing, volumes, alternative materials and commercial terms to improve cost and profitability outcomes.
  • Supply Continuity & Demand Forecasting – partner with operations to establish accurate demand forecasting, optimal inventory levels and appropriate safety-stock thresholds.
Who are we looking for?

If you are an experienced and practical Procurement Manager with experience in the establishment and management of a procurement function, strategic sourcing or supply chain management, ideally within a manufacturing environment, this could be your ideal role.

We are looking for demonstrable experience in each of the functions above: system development, cost optimisation, contract negotiation, sourcing and risk mitigation, S&OP and inventory planning. Additionally we are seeking someone with the right soft skills which include strong commercial acumen, proactive leadership and analytical problem solving.
