Job Summary:

Looking for something more than general freight?

Join our Heavy Haulage team and be part of some of New Zealand’s biggest construction, infrastructure and wind energy projects. Whether you’re looking for a short-term opportunity or a permanent role, we have options to suit your situation.

Not every driver can do this work. We're looking for experienced Class 5 operators who take pride in their truck, enjoy the challenge of moving oversized and specialist loads, and want work that showcases their skills.

You'll be trusted to move critical loads using modern, well-maintained equipment on some of the country's most complex and high-profile projects. Backed by guaranteed hours, overtime opportunities, and a strong pipeline of work, this is a role where your skills will be genuinely valued.

About Us:

Smith Crane and Construction is a family-owned business with over 30 years of experience, offering exceptional service across crane hire, civil construction (including marine civil and pre-cast manufacturing), transportation, and wind energy installation and maintenance. We pride ourselves on our strong team culture, commitment to safety, and continuing our family tradition of excellent customer focus and job execution.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Transport oversized loads and equipment safely across New Zealand.

  • Conduct pre-start checks and keep your gear in top condition.

  • Load, secure, and deliver plant and machinery.

  • Support lifting operations and site activities.

  • Complete required transport documentation.

  • Work as part of a professional heavy haulage team.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Current BESS certification, or willingness to obtain.

  • Minimum 3 years' heavy haulage and/or over-dimension load experience.

  • Construction or infrastructure industry experience preferred.

  • Current New Zealand Class 5 Driver Licence with W, T & R endorsements, or an equivalent convertible international licence.

  • Good English communication skills.

  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and compliance.

  • Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to follow operational requirements.

What We Offer:

  • Overtime rates

  • Strong pipeline of work providing long-term job security

  • Modern, well-maintained trucks, specialised trailers and quality equipment

  • A mix of heavy machinery, oversized, and specialist transport work

  • Ongoing training, development and career progression opportunities

  • Family-owned business

  • Work alongside experienced operators and industry professionals

  • Be part of a company known for delivering the country's most challenging lifts and transport projects
