For more than 90 years, Anexa Veterinary Services has been part of the Waikato farming community. As a member-owned organisation, our focus is simple: creating real value for the farmers, animals, and communities we serve.
At the heart of that mission is our people. We’re looking for a hands-on, people-first leader with a deep, practical understanding of agriculture to head our production animal business, support our team, and help shape its next chapter.
Lead, support, and work alongside a talented team
Above all, this is a leadership role rooted in connection and support. You will actively work with, lead, and mentor around 70 veterinarians, technicians, and support staff across our production animal clinics.

Bringing people together: Understanding the realities of production animal practice and ensuring our teams feel backed, heard, and equipped to succeed.

This is leadership with genuine influence
Working closely with our CEO, leadership team, and Board, you’ll have the autonomy to identify opportunities, streamline operations, and help shape where Anexa goes next. You will also work alongside Cognosco, our research partner, connecting practical on-farm outcomes with high-level strategy.
Flexible background: While a deep, intuitive understanding of agriculture and farming systems is non-negotiable, a veterinary qualification is not longer a strict prerequisite. Whether you are an accomplished agribusiness/operations leader deeply embedded in the rural sector, or a senior production animal veterinarian looking to step out of full-time clinical practice while staying connected to clinical work, we want to hear from you.

The Opportunity
Our current Ops Manager, Mike Shallcrass, is heading off on an extended overseas adventure with his family in early 2027—creating an exciting opportunity for someone new to bring their experience, ideas, and leadership to Anexa.
We are offering this as a 2-year fixed-term contract for someone who puts people first, understands the backbone of the rural sector, and has the ambition to make a meaningful contribution at an organisational level.
