Love making great meat products? Ready to take your butchery career in a new direction?
We're looking for a skilled, enthusiastic butcher who enjoys making products, experimenting with recipes and finding better ways of doing things.
If you've worked in a traditional independent butcher shop where you make your own sausages, bacon and ham, this could be a great opportunity to take your skills beyond the butcher's shop and into commercial food manufacturing.
You'll have access to a modern, well-equipped test kitchen where you can experiment with new products and recipes, before scaling them up using our commercial manufacturing equipment. You'll get to see products you've helped create make their way onto supermarket shelves throughout New Zealand.
With regular Monday to Friday hours, a competitive salary and plenty of variety, this is an opportunity to put your butchery skills to work in a different environment.
About us
Source and Supply Food Co is an established Auckland food manufacturer producing bacon, ham, sausages and other meat products for supermarkets and foodservice customers throughout New Zealand.
We're a growing business with a strong focus on product quality, innovation and continuous improvement.
About the role
This is something a little different from a traditional butchery position.
You'll work across product development, factory trials and manufacturing improvements, helping us develop great products and find smarter ways to make them.
Your responsibilities will include:
Product development: Preparing samples, experimenting with recipes and developing new meat products.
Factory trials: Planning and running trials for new and existing products, from initial concept through to full-scale production.
Process improvement: Identifying opportunities to improve manufacturing methods, efficiency and product consistency.
Yield and waste reduction: Investigating ways to improve yields, reduce waste and get more value from our raw materials.
Production troubleshooting: Helping investigate product quality issues and finding practical solutions.
Training and coaching: Sharing your knowledge with production staff and helping improve manufacturing techniques.
Production standards: Helping establish and maintain consistent methods for making our products.
You'll work closely with our production, sales, marketing and quality teams.
This is a hands-on position with plenty of variety, a high degree of autonomy and no direct staff management responsibilities.
About you
We're particularly interested in hearing from butchers who have worked in independent butcher shops where making smallgoods is an important part of the business.
Ideally, you'll bring:
Practical experience making sausages, bacon and ham.
A sound understanding of meat processing, curing, brining, smoking and sausage manufacturing.
A genuine interest in developing new products and experimenting with recipes.
A practical approach to solving problems and improving processes.
Initiative, enthusiasm and the ability to work independently.
A willingness to learn new equipment and manufacturing techniques.
Good communication skills and an ability to work with different teams.
You don't need a food technology degree, previous management experience or experience working in a large food factory.
What matters most is that you know how to make great meat products, enjoy what you do and are keen to develop your skills.
What's in it for you?
Competitive salary
Regular Monday to Friday working hours, with no regular weekend work.
A modern, well-equipped test kitchen where you can experiment with recipes, ingredients and manufacturing techniques.
Access to commercial manufacturing equipment, allowing you to take your creations from small-scale trials through to full production.
Career progression beyond traditional butchery, developing skills in product development and food manufacturing.
Variety and autonomy, with the opportunity to contribute ideas and make a real difference.
The satisfaction of seeing your products on supermarket shelves throughout New Zealand.
A supportive team and plenty of opportunities to learn.
