Lead business development strategy and personally manage key relationships and pursuits. We are seeking a Director of Business Development who can build a focused pipeline, develop a capable team, and align growth with our estimating and construction capacity.
Sports Fields, Inc. (FIELDS) is a 100% employee-owned contractor specializing in the construction, renovation, and maintenance of athletic fields and sports facilities. We deliver natural grass and synthetic turf projects for schools, municipalities, recreation organizations, and sports venues.
What You Will Do
- Develop the business development plan, target markets, account priorities, budgets, and measurable goals with company leadership.
- Lead and coach business development personnel; establish clear expectations for prospecting, qualification, follow-up, and reporting.
- Personally develop strategic clients, industry partnerships, and major project opportunities.
- Lead pursuit planning and bid or no-bid recommendations with estimating, design, and construction leaders.
- Oversee proposals, qualifications, and presentations; support commercial negotiations within approved authority.
- Maintain reliable pipeline forecasts and monitor awards, conversion rates, pursuit costs, and alignment with margin goals.
- Coordinate commitments and project handoffs; use client feedback and completed-project results to improve future pursuits.
What You Bring
- At least 8 years of progressive business development experience in construction or a related industry, including team leadership.
- A record of winning profitable work and developing repeat business with public, institutional, or private owners.
- Strong understanding of construction procurement, project funding, pursuit strategy, and contract negotiation.
- Athletic field or recreation facility experience and established industry relationships strongly preferred.
- Ability to manage a departmental budget, coach staff, and present credible forecasts to company leadership.
- Degree in business, construction management, or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience welcomed.
