Senior Electrical Engineer | Hurstville
Build Your Future with Alliance Automation
At Alliance Automation, we're helping shape the future of Australian industry through automation, digital innovation, electrical engineering and operational technology.
We're looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in Hurstville, working across technically challenging projects within heavy industry, water and wastewater, utilities and infrastructure.
This is a hands-on senior role for an engineer who understands complex operational environments and enjoys solving real-world electrical engineering challenges. You'll combine strong technical capability with project delivery and client engagement, taking ownership of electrical design outcomes while working alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, project managers and technical specialists.
Whether you're developing a design, solving a complex technical issue with a client or supporting another engineer, you'll have the opportunity to apply your experience to projects where practical, reliable engineering really matters.
The Opportunity
You'll work across the full project lifecycle, from understanding client requirements and developing concepts through detailed design, construction support, testing, commissioning and handover.
We're particularly interested in engineers with experience across heavy industrial, water and wastewater or other complex operational environments. You'll understand the practical considerations that come with designing electrical systems for critical assets, where safety, reliability, maintainability and constructability are fundamental to a successful outcome.
You'll remain technically hands-on while taking ownership of engineering outcomes, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary project teams, mentoring developing engineers and contributing to the continued improvement of our electrical engineering capability.
Your role will include:
- Developing, reviewing and delivering electrical engineering designs across heavy industrial, water, wastewater and infrastructure projects.
- Working directly with clients and stakeholders to understand operational requirements, define scopes and develop practical, fit-for-purpose engineering solutions.
- Preparing and reviewing electrical design documentation, including single-line diagrams, schematics, general arrangements, equipment schedules, technical specifications, calculations and design reports.
- Applying your knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including power distribution, motor control, protection systems, switchboards and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Providing technical guidance throughout design, construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
- Ensuring engineering deliverables comply with relevant Australian Standards, legislative requirements, client specifications and Alliance Automation quality requirements.
- Coordinating technical deliverables in line with project schedules, budgets and agreed outcomes.
- Providing trusted engineering advice to clients, project teams, contractors, suppliers and site personnel.
- Contributing to design reviews, technical risk assessments, estimating, procurement and commissioning activities.
- Collaborating across electrical engineering, control systems, instrumentation, operational technology and project delivery teams.
- Mentoring and supporting graduate, junior and intermediate engineers in their technical and professional development.
- Building strong client relationships through sound technical advice, clear communication and consistent delivery.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering standards, tools, systems and design processes.
- Promoting a strong culture of health, safety, environment and quality across all project activities.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for an experienced electrical engineer with strong technical fundamentals and practical experience gained within heavy industry, water and wastewater, utilities, infrastructure or comparable operational environments.
You'll understand not just how electrical systems are designed, but how they need to perform in the real world. You'll be comfortable engaging with clients, contractors and site teams, working through complex technical challenges and developing solutions that balance technical requirements with safety, reliability and practical implementation.
We're looking for someone with:
- A recognised tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- At least five years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience across heavy industry, water and wastewater, utilities, infrastructure or similar operational environments.
- Experience in the design, construction, commissioning or maintenance of industrial electrical installations.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, design methodologies and relevant Australian Standards.
- Experience developing and reviewing electrical drawings, specifications, calculations and other engineering deliverables.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems including power distribution, motor control, protection systems, switchboards and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and electrical design software such as PowerCAD or equivalent.
- An understanding of control systems, instrumentation, industrial communications and operational technology environments.
- Experience coordinating technical activities and engineering deliverables across multidisciplinary projects.
- The ability to build effective working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and internal teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the confidence to make sound technical decisions.
- A practical and accountable approach, with a genuine commitment to safety, quality and delivering strong outcomes for clients.
