Automotive Technician | Relocation Assistance Available

Factory Trained? Dealership Experienced? Senior Technician? Ready for Something Better?

Better pay. Better workshop. Better lifestyle. We'll help you make the move.

The Motor Company Service Centre is looking for experienced, qualified Automotive Technicians to join our growing Christchurch team.

If you're factory trained, have a background in franchise dealerships or have progressed into a senior technical role, we want to hear from you.

Based elsewhere in New Zealand? No problem. We're offering relocation assistance for the right candidates, whether you're coming from Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin or anywhere else in NZ.

With competitive pay, industry-leading facilities and an incredible variety of vehicles, this is an opportunity to put your experience to work in a workshop that genuinely values skilled technicians.

Why Join Us?

  • $35–$48 per hour – Competitive pay that recognises your experience, training and technical ability

  • Relocation assistance – Available for suitable candidates moving from anywhere in New Zealand

  • Industry-leading workshop – Modern facilities, advanced diagnostic equipment and quality tools

  • Great team culture – Join a workshop team of 20+. Good people who work hard, have a laugh and back each other.

  • Huge vehicle variety – From everyday cars and modified 4x4s, to high-performance vehicles and collectable classics

  • Consistent workflow – Supporting three successful automotive dealerships

  • Career development – Opportunities to further develop your technical expertise and progress within the business

  • Privately owned and operated – Supportive management that respects experience and quality workmanship

Not Your Average Workshop.

The Motor Company Service Centre supports three established automotive businesses: The Motor Company, Ute Nation and Southern Specialist Cars.

Our technicians work across an incredible variety of vehicles, including:

  • Everyday passenger vehicles and SUVs

  • Utes, 4WDs and modified vehicles

  • European and luxury vehicles

  • High-performance and specialist cars

  • Collectable classics

  • Premium dealership stock

One day you could be carrying out advanced diagnostics on a modern European vehicle, the next working on a modified 4WD or specialist performance car.

We're not a production line or a corporate franchise.

We're a privately owned automotive group that has invested heavily in its people, equipment and facilities. You'll be working from an industry-leading facility with modern equipment and the tools you need to do the job properly.

The Role

This is a hands-on position suited to an experienced technician who is confident working independently, diagnosing complex faults and delivering work to a consistently high standard.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advanced vehicle diagnostics, electrical and mechanical fault finding

  • Mechanical servicing, maintenance and repairs

  • Diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues

  • Vehicle inspections and dealership preparation

  • Accessory installations and 4WD modifications

  • Quality control and final inspections

  • Supporting and sharing technical knowledge with the wider workshop team

Who We're Looking For

We're specifically seeking experienced, qualified technicians with a strong technical background.

To be considered, you must have:

  • A recognised automotive trade qualification

  • Post-qualification experience as an Automotive Technician

  • Strong diagnostic ability and confidence troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical faults

  • Experience working with modern vehicle systems and diagnostic equipment

  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in your workmanship

  • The ability to work independently, efficiently and to a high standard

  • A current, full New Zealand driver's licence

Factory-trained, franchise dealership or senior-level workshop experience is highly regarded.

Experience with European vehicles, performance cars, 4WDs or specialist vehicles is an advantage, but not essential.

A current Warrant of Fitness authority, or willingness to obtain one, is also desirable.

Please note: This vacancy is for experienced, qualified technicians only. We are not recruiting apprentices, trainees, recently qualified technicians or unqualified mechanics for this position.

Same career. Better lifestyle.

Sick of Auckland traffic? Ready for a change of scenery or a fresh start somewhere new?

Christchurch offers a great balance of lifestyle, affordability and opportunity, with beaches, mountains and everything the South Island has to offer right on your doorstep.

Join an established automotive group, work in an industry-leading workshop and enjoy a huge variety of vehicles, without compromising on your career.

Relocation assistance is available for the right candidates from anywhere in New Zealand.

If you've been considering a move, we'd love to talk about how we can help make it happen.
