We're looking for an experienced Data Platform Engineer to design, deploy and maintain modern cloud-native data platforms, combining database management, real-time data processing, DevOps and automation.
Please note: Candidates must be currently residing in Portugal!
📍Location: Portugal - 100% Remote
🛠️ What you'll do:
- Design, deploy and operate scalable data platforms, including real-time streaming solutions using Kafka, Flink and Debezium (CDC).
- Manage production databases such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Valkey, ensuring high availability, performance and reliability.
- Deploy and operate data services on Kubernetes and cloud environments, preferably Azure.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation using Terraform, Terragrunt, Ansible, Python and Bash.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows using GitLab CI/CD and Argo CD.
- Develop self-service solutions that simplify data platform provisioning for development teams.
- Implement monitoring and observability solutions using Prometheus and Grafana.
- Optimise database performance, infrastructure costs and platform scalability.
- Ensure platform resilience through backup, disaster recovery and failover strategies.
- Participate in a 24/7 rotational on-call support schedule.
🧠 What we're looking for:
- Proven experience managing production databases, including PostgreSQL, MongoDB or similar technologies.
- Hands-on experience with real-time data streaming technologies such as Kafka and Flink.
- Strong SQL skills, including query optimisation, indexing and database performance tuning.
- Solid experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience with Terraform, Ansible and automation using Python or Bash.
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes, containers and cloud environments, preferably Azure.
- Understanding of database replication, high availability, backup and recovery.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Fluency in English (mandatory).
Nice to have:
- Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and database operators such as CloudNativePG.
- Knowledge of Debezium, CDC and managed database services (DBaaS).
- Experience with GitOps, Argo CD and GitLab CI/CD.
- Familiarity with Linux administration and observability tools such as Loki.
- Knowledge of FinOps and cloud cost optimisation.
- Exposure to Elasticsearch, SQL Server, Oracle or Databricks.
- Experience working in Agile/Kanban environments.
- Relevant certifications in Azure, Kubernetes, DevOps, databases or SRE.
- French language comprehension.
