About the role

TechFort is looking for a proactive Business Development Specialist to build our customer base and help shape our sales approach.

This role combines outbound B2B sales with a practical technical sales component. Regular calls, customer and partner meetings, and consistent follow-ups are central to the role.

You will take ownership of customer relationships and progressing opportunities through to sale, with our technical team supporting solution discussions.

Key responsibilities

  • Research target businesses and identify decision-makers.

  • Generate opportunities through calls, emails, LinkedIn and professional networks.

  • Lead customer sales meetings, understand business and technology needs, and qualify opportunities.

  • Work with our technical team to develop suitable solutions and support proposals.

  • Maintain consistent follow-ups and progress opportunities through to sale.

  • Develop vendor and business partnerships through regular engagement and meetings.

  • Keep CRM records accurate and maintain a clear sales pipeline.

About you

  • Proven B2B sales or business development experience, including outbound prospecting.

  • Excellent written and spoken English, with confident, professional communication.

  • A practical understanding of IT services and cybersecurity, sufficient to discuss customer needs and recognise opportunities.

  • Initiative, persistence and the ability to manage your work independently.

  • Confidence using CRM systems and researching potential customers.

  • Willingness to develop your service knowledge through self-directed learning.

  • Reliable internet access and a suitable remote working setup.

  • A valid driver licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

  • Based in New Zealand, preferably Auckland or Wellington, and legally entitled to provide contractor services.

  • Able to invoice as a sole trader or through a registered company.

Experience selling technology, cybersecurity or managed services is an advantage. You do not need to be a technical engineer.

Working arrangement and remuneration

  • Initial 12-week independent contractor engagement, with potential extension subject to performance, business needs and mutual agreement. Up to 25 hours per week.

  • NZ$30 to NZ$32 per hour, plus GST if applicable, and performance-based commission under a separate written agreement.

  • Remote work with regular customer, vendor and partner meetings and travel. Flexible scheduling around agreed outcomes and customer commitments. International travel requires prior agreement.
