Residential Building Services Ltd (RBS) is looking for an experienced Health & Safety Business Lead to take ownership of our H&S practice and drive its next stage of growth. This is a full-time role based in Tauranga. Reporting to the General Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the direction, performance and growth of the Health & Safety practice. You will lead a capable team, maintain high-quality client delivery and drive business growth by strengthening client relationships, developing referral channels, improving services and winning new work.
About the opportunity
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who combines technical credibility with strong people, client and commercial capability. Working with the H&S team and wider business, you will have genuine autonomy to shape the practice, strengthen our services and improve how we operate. You will help residential builders and associated trades develop effective systems, meet their obligations and build positive safety cultures, while remaining involved in selected technical work, complex matters and key client discussions. Some travel within New Zealand will be required to support clients, industry relationships and the team.
What you’ll be responsible for
Develop and deliver the H&S practice’s strategy, priorities and growth plan
Maintain the quality and legislative currency of H&S advice, systems, documentation and services
Strengthen the service portfolio, pricing, processes, systems and delivery model
Oversee operational delivery, ensuring services are timely, consistent and technically sound
Lead, coach and develop the team, building capability for future growth
Remain involved in selected technical delivery, complex matters and key client discussions
Drive the growth of the practice by identifying and converting new business opportunities, expanding services with existing clients, building referral and industry relationships, and contributing to targeted marketing activity
Own performance, including client outcomes, revenue, margin, risks and opportunities
What you’ll bring
A relevant health and safety qualification and strong knowledge of New Zealand legislation
At least five years’ H&S experience, including operational and strategic leadership responsibilities
Experience leading a team, business function, professional services practice or substantial service line
Strong technical judgement and a willingness to remain connected to service delivery
Demonstrated success improving services and growing a client base, revenue or commercial performance
Strong client relationship, communication, facilitation and business development skills
Commercial confidence, including an understanding of pricing, revenue and margins
A practical, organised and outcome-focused leadership style
Experience in residential construction or a related industry would be advantageous but is not essential.
