The Retail Store Manager for our Mt Wellington store will lead from the front. You won’t just manage a store - you’ll run your own mini-business. From coaching a high-performing team of Retail Assistants to building strong relationships with local partners and executing community-first marketing, this role is made for someone who thrives on ownership, service, and impact.
You’ll lead with curiosity and care, empower your team to educate and inspire pet parents, and champion Petdirect’s mission in your neighbourhood. This is an opportunity to shape what exceptional looks like at the flagship store, setting the benchmark for all future locations.

Lead a Team of Retail Assistants
- Recruit, train, and grow a team of Retail Assistants - individuals who are passionate about sharing knowledge, building connections, and personalising every interaction.
- Foster a feedback-rich culture where learning, coaching, and development are embedded into daily routines.
- Lead with empathy and purpose, ensuring your team reflects the warmth and trust that Petdirect stands for.
- Treat the store like it’s your own - from financial performance and operations to team morale and standards.
- Drive daily, weekly, and monthly KPIs across sales, education, and service benchmarks.
- Analyse trends, solve problems, and act fast - always with an owner’s mindset.
- Build meaningful relationships with local businesses, rescues, and community groups.
- Plan and execute grassroots marketing initiatives, from in-store events to partnerships that amplify Petdirect’s brand locally.
- Champion in-store adoption days and activations that connect with hearts (and paws!) in your neighbourhood.
- Create a store environment that’s welcoming, inspiring, and always customer-ready.
- Ensure every guest leaves more knowledgeable, more supported, and more excited about pet parenting.
- Use customer feedback to drive continuous improvement and elevate every touchpoint.
- Embody and role model Petdirect’s values in everything you do.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Proven experience in retail management, ideally as a Store Manager or Assistant Manager in a high-volume environment.
- Strong leadership, sales-driving, and team development skills.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing marketing plans at the store level.
- Excellent communication and customer service capabilities.
- Knowledge of pet products or a passion for animals is highly desirable.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced setting.
- Proficiency in retail management systems, POS software, Google Workspace, and MS Office.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as required.
- You believe in coaching over managing.
- You love pets and people equally.
- You have hustle, heart, and a hunger to own something special.
