Support Living Well. Build Community. Work with Purpose.

Are you a compassionate, values-driven human looking for a role where every single day makes a tangible difference?

At Step Ahead Trust, we don't just run activities—we build a community. As an NGO, we empower adults living with diagnosed mental health conditions to step ahead in their journey toward wellbeing, connection, and community life.

We are searching for an Activities Coordinator who can bring their ideas, their kindness and their ability to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in, to our team bases in Christchurch and Rangiora. Working closely with our Operations Manager, you will have the creative freedom and oversight to shape, develop, and deliver dynamic programmes that truly transform lives.

Why You'll Love Working with Us

  • Real Impact: Be the catalyst for tāngata mauri (members) to integrate further into their communities, harness their strengths, and thrive in an environment built on acceptance and aroha.

  • A Culture of Inclusion: We champion diversity. We warmly welcome and value all backgrounds, actively encouraging applications from Māori, those with lived experience, the rainbow community, and all diverse groups.

  • Welcoming Spaces: Be active in providing safe and welcoming environments where tāngata mauri feel valued, encouraged and accepted for who they are.

What You Will Bring to the Table

You are an empathetic connector who balances a big heart with an organised, proactive mind. You bring:

  • The Essentials: A New Zealand Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Level 4) or equivalent (or higher) and a full, clean NZ Driver's Licence.

  • Cultural Grounding: A genuine interest in the application of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an understanding of Te Whare Tapa Whā.

  • Support & Inspiration: Experience supporting, motivating, and bringing out the best in a diverse range of people, from tāngata mauri to colleagues.

  • Operational Savvy: Strong skills in juggling varied activities, budgeting, managing resources, running effective meetings, and keeping on top of digital admin (MS Office, Outlook, and booking systems).

  • A Safety-First Mindset: Proactive commitment to Health, Safety & Wellbeing best practices and a solution-focused mindset in creating the best spaces for the community.
