Bring your leadership ideas and community spirit to The Y

Our Auckland City fitness and stadium centre brings people together to get active, build confidence and connect. We’re looking for a Centre Manager who can bring out the best in their team and create a place where people love to work and belong.

If you enjoy leading a busy operation, building relationships and seeing your ideas make a practical difference, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll lead our Auckland City fitness and stadium operations, with responsibility for people, customer experience, safe delivery and financial performance.

From the gym floor to stadium bookings and activities, you’ll help the team deliver a welcoming, well-run centre. You’ll coach your people, connect with the community and find opportunities to improve participation and make better use of our spaces, supported by colleagues across The Y.

What you’ll do

• Build a welcoming, capable team with clear expectations, regular coaching and opportunities to grow.

• Deliver great fitness and stadium experiences, strengthening participation, membership retention and community connections.

• Manage budgets, understand what’s driving results and take action to improve performance.

• Match staffing to customer demand while maintaining safe, reliable services.

• Keep the gym and stadium well presented, safely operated and effectively used, including bookings, hire arrangements and activities.

• Lead improvements to services, systems and ways of working, bringing your team with you.

• Make safety and safeguarding part of everyday practice, with clear reporting and follow-through.

What you’ll bring

You’ll have experience leading a customer-facing operation, taking responsibility for its people, service quality and results, and knowing how to motivate your team, address issues through honest conversations and support people to succeed. Experience in fitness, recreation or sports facilities would be beneficial, but we also welcome leaders from other service environments who bring strong operational and people leadership.

You’ll also bring:

• Confidence managing budgets and using financial and operational information to make decisions.

• Experience planning staffing and improving productivity while maintaining service quality and safety.

• The ability to lead change and help teams adopt new systems and working practices.

• Sound judgement, practical problem-solving skills and the confidence to seek support or escalate concerns.

• An approachable style and the ability to build relationships with customers, colleagues and community partners.
