Junior Chefs / Commis Chefs – Beau
Ponsonby, Auckland | Full-time
Beau is a busy, independent restaurant, wine bar and deli in Three Lamps, Ponsonby. Our food is seasonal and produce-driven, we have a lot of regulars, and we reckon the kitchen is a pretty good place to learn.
We’re looking for a couple of junior chefs to join us, working alongside experienced chefs, including the owner, who’s back cooking hands-on.
We’re less interested in how many years you’ve spent in kitchens than in how you work and how much you care about food.
The role
You’ll be involved in prep and service, moving around different sections as you find your feet. We’ll teach you how we do things and why. As you develop, you’ll have opportunities to contribute ideas to specials and dishes.
It’s hard work and it gets busy. It’s also a good laugh. Nobody shouts and nobody’s too important to wipe down a bench.
Over New Year we’re cooking at Rhythm and Vines, and we’d love you to come along.
Who we’re looking for
You’ve got high standards. You keep your section clean without being reminded, tidy as you go and notice when something isn’t quite right. If you fold your washing straight out of the dryer, we’ll probably get on.
You love food. You eat out, cook at home and have opinions about it.
You want to get good. You might have a year or so in a decent kitchen, be fresh out of cooking school, or be newer to it all but quick to pick things up. Whichever it is, you ask questions, take feedback well and want to be a lot better in a year’s time.
What we’re offering
Proper training from people who care about it. Time across different sections. A small team where your work gets noticed, with room to step up as you improve.
Sound like you?
Send us your CV and quick answers to these. Nothing formal, we’re just interested in getting to know you.
