Post-Processing Lead for 3D Printing
Clone 3D Print and Production · Penrose, Auckland · Full-time
About us
Clone 3D is an industrial SLA 3D printing business in Penrose (we offer some FDM, but it’s a small part of what we produce). We make parts and models for R&D teams, product designers, toolmakers and the film industry.
We’re known for quick lead times and great quality, and demand has outgrown our workshop systems. We need a permanent lead in post-processing to uphold that reputation, and help us grow.
We’ll be honest: it’s a messy job, and it can get chaotic. We’re not looking for someone to slot into a finished machine. We want someone to help build it: setting the standard, keeping work flowing and fine tuning the systems needed to grow.
We’re a small team of four, including this role.
The role
Can you hold yourself to a high finishing standard, treating every part like it’s going on display?
Most days you’ll be on the tools: washing, curing, removing supports, sanding and media blasting. You’ll also:
Plan and allocate daily workshop work with the Operations Manager
Train and sign off the work of our post-processing staff
Own the final quality check before anything ships
Set and improve the processes and checklists the workshop runs on
Spot what could work better (layout, materials, methods) and make it happen
You’ll have the room, and the expectation, to be intrapreneurial: trialling new finishing methods and shaping how the post-processing area runs.
What you’ll bring:
A sharp eye for surface quality and the final 5%
Strong prep skills: sanding, filling and priming to a flawless base
Confidence with power tools
Ability to diagnose and fix finish defects yourself, and know when to ask for help
Passion and or experience leading, supervising or training others, in any form
Background or history participating in any sport
Clear and calm communication and the ability to give and take direct feedback well
Knowledge of workshop health and safety and the importance of wearing PPE
A proactive mindset and ability to see mistakes as something to learn from
Experience with plastics or resins 3D-printed parts is a bonus, as is writing work instructions.
