About the role
The PR Company is looking for an advocacy and communications professional to join our Wellington-based team. Much of our work is advocacy. We help clients influence government policy, funding, regulation, decision-makers, stakeholders and public opinion. That means working out what they want to achieve, who they need to influence, what they need to say and how best to make their case.
Key responsibilities
- Write media releases, articles, opinion pieces, case studies and social content
- Develop advocacy, stakeholder and member communications
- Turn interviews, research, transcripts and sometimes complex policy material into clear, compelling content
- Prepare speeches, briefings, submissions, newsletters and correspondence
- Research political, policy and media issues
- Identify stories, arguments and opportunities that support clients' advocacy objectives
- Proof and fact-check material to a high standard
- Use AI tools intelligently to support research, thinking and drafting
About you
- Around three years' experience in communications, journalism, PR or public affairs
- Critical thinker who can get your head around an issue, understand a brief, work out what matters, spot gaps and ask good questions
- Eye for detail with names, facts, dates, spelling, grammar and accuracy
- Use AI well, but not blindly, questioning the output, checking the facts and editing it hard
- Interested in New Zealand politics, public policy and media, and curious about how decisions are made and influenced
- Can think critically and write well
