The Opportunity

For a psychologist who wants their work to make a meaningful difference, this is a chance to bring your clinical expertise and compassion to a role that truly matters.

You will support adults living with cancer, helping them and their families navigate the emotional and psychological challenges that can come with diagnosis, treatment and beyond. It is an opportunity to build genuine connections, provide a safe space for people to work through difficult experiences and walk alongside them during some of life's most challenging moments.

This is a people-centred role where the relationships you build are just as important as the clinical support you provide. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients, use your therapeutic skills and contribute to a service that makes a real difference in people's lives.

The Role

Based at Dominion Lodge in Grafton, you will be part of a close-knit Psychology team providing individual support and therapeutic programmes to adults living with cancer and their families.

Your work will include:
  • Providing psychological assessments and individual therapy to support clients through the emotional impact of cancer.
  • Helping individuals and families navigate adjustment, uncertainty, treatment and life beyond cancer.
  • Developing supportive therapeutic relationships with clients and their caregivers.
  • Contributing to group programmes and community initiatives that help people connect and feel supported.
  • Working alongside nurses, social workers and other health professionals to provide coordinated, holistic care.
  • Managing your own caseload while remaining connected to a highly collaborative team.
You will work with people at different stages of their cancer journey, each with their own experiences, challenges and support needs. The role offers a lovely balance of independent clinical practice, meaningful client relationships and connection with the wider team.

The Team & Culture

Although you will manage your own caseload, you will never feel like you are working in isolation. You will be joining an experienced, welcoming Psychology team that genuinely values collaboration, shared knowledge and supporting one another.

There is an open and approachable culture, with regular case discussions, team catch-ups and opportunities to share ideas and seek guidance. You will also have fortnightly professional supervision, providing a dedicated space to reflect on your work, discuss cases and continue developing your clinical practice.

The team has a strong focus on learning and development, with opportunities to contribute to student placements, group programmes and wider supportive care initiatives.

About You

This role will suit a psychologist who is clinically confident, compassionate and genuinely enjoys working with people through complex and challenging life experiences.

We are looking for someone who brings:
  • Registration as a Psychologist in New Zealand with a current APC. Clinical, Counselling or General scope will be considered.
  • At least two years' relevant experience working in a physical health setting.
  • Experience in oncology or palliative care would be highly regarded.
  • Confidence working independently and managing a varied caseload.
  • Strong assessment and therapeutic skills, with an ability to build trusting relationships.
  • An interest in approaches such as ACT, CBT, EMDR, mindfulness or self-compassion.
  • A warm, grounded and empathetic approach, with an appreciation for the individual experiences of clients and their families.
  • A collaborative mindset and genuine interest in working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
You will need to be comfortable supporting people with a range of experiences and needs, while bringing sound clinical judgement, sensitivity and confidence to your work.

What's On Offer
  • A genuinely rewarding role where your work has a positive impact on people's lives.
  • A welcoming and experienced Psychology team.
  • Fortnightly professional supervision, with funding provided.
  • Southern Cross health insurance.
  • APC costs covered.
  • Opportunities for professional development, learning and student mentorship.
