The Opportunity
Master Electricians is looking for a practical, curious Accountant to join its small finance team on a part-time basis. Working around 25 hours a week on a flexible hybrid pattern, you’ll keep month-end running smoothly and support the wider finance function with reporting, budgeting and year-end. It’s an ideal next step for an Assistant Accountant ready to step up, or an experienced Accountant looking for real flexibility.
  • Approximately 25 hours per week, flexible for the right person, with your office/home pattern agreed around your hours
  • Medical, life and trauma insurance (eligibility applies), a $500 annual wellbeing allowance, an extra day’s leave for Electricians Day, N3 discounts and CA support if applicable.
The Company
Master Electricians is the industry body for electrical contracting businesses across New Zealand. As an incorporated society, it advocates for the electrical industry and supports its members to run safe, successful businesses. It’s an organisation on the move — its newer entity, Trade Master, is performing well and the group has its sights set on further growth.
  • Around 1,270 member businesses nationwide
  • A close-knit Wellington team of 19 staff plus around 9 contractors
  • A growing group with new ventures performing strongly
The Role
You’ll keep the books accurate and month-end on track across Master Electricians and its related entities. The work is varied without being overly complex, and you’ll play a key part in pulling together and preparing the data behind management reporting, as well as supporting year-end and budgeting.
  • Month-end journals (accruals, prepayments, depreciation), balance sheet reconciliations and inter-company journals and recharges
  • GST returns and reconciliations, FBT information and investment revaluations
  • Data preparation and analysis for reporting — including events and training profitability — plus support with year-end audit schedules and budgets
You
You’re a sleeves-rolled-up accountant who takes pride in getting the detail right and enjoys finding smarter ways to work. Team fit matters here — being capable, proactive and open to new tools counts for more than your years of experience.
  • Assistant Accountant or Accountant experience, confident with journals, reconciliations and NZ GST
  • Experience with Xero (or similar) and good Excel skills
  • An interest in, or exposure to, AI and automation tools — and the curiosity to keep learning
