About the role
In this hands-on role, you will take a lead responsibility for conceptualizing, designing, and detailing heavy transport equipment, specialized trailers, chassis modifications, and custom mechanical solutions. You will work closely with our fabrication, workshop, and compliance teams to turn bold ideas into rugged, road-legal, and high-performance commercial transport solutions.
Key responsibilities
Invent, sketch, and develop custom heavy transport solutions, attachments, and trailer designs from the ground up
Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and production-ready 2D shop drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
Ensure all designs align with New Zealand heavy transport standards, NZTA/Waka Kotahi rules, and heavy vehicle certification requirements
Prepare accurate component lists, laser/CNC cutting files, and documentation for the workshop floor
About you
Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or CAD Drafting (Diploma or Bachelor's degree preferred)
Proven, hands-on experience using Autodesk Inventor (for 3D parametric modeling and assemblies) and AutoCAD (for 2D layouts and shop drawings)
Solid understanding of heavy transport, commercial vehicle chassis, sheet metal fabrication, and steel structures
Strong mechanical aptitude with an appreciation for real-world workshop practicalities, welding, and assembly
Familiarity with New Zealand heavy transport design rules or a willingness to work alongside Heavy Vehicle Certifiers
