This is an established Sydney engineering and manufacturing business, west of the city. They design, build, test and install custom critical power packages, including LV and MV switchboards, paralleling and changeover switchgear, and the controls that tie it all together. They service hospitals, utilities, data centres and heavy industry across Australia.
They need a senior electrical engineer to own packages end to end and step up as 2IC to the Head of Department. NOTE: this is a hands-on technical role, not a desk-bound management job.
Perfect for an Electrical Project Engineer with around 7–10 years in critical power, switchgear or heavy electrical packaging (like mining / oil & gas).
What You'll Be Doing
- Design lead: Run the electrical design on critical power and switchgear packages, including paralleling, load sharing, ATS and changeover, and N+1 and 2N setups
- Studies: Do fault current, protection and discrimination studies, and set relays and breakers
- Standards: Size cables to AS/NZS 3008, and rate busbars and switchboards to AS/NZS 61439
- Sign-off: Check and sign off SLDs, schematics, switchboard GAs and control drawings in AutoCAD Electrical
- Testing & commissioning: Run FATs and load bank tests, then site commissioning and handover
- Clients: Be the technical go-to for clients, consultants and suppliers, and keep jobs on schedule and on budget
- 2IC: Mentor the junior engineer and drafters, and stand in for the Head of Department
- A degree in Electrical Engineering (CPEng or NER registration, or eligibility, highly regarded)
- Around 7–10 years in critical power, switchgear or heavy electrical packaging
- Experience delivering power packages for hospitals, utilities, heavy industry or similar
- Strong fault, protection and discrimination study skills, and cable sizing to AS/NZS 3008 and 61439
- Experience mentoring juniors, and ready to step up as 2IC
- $170,000 to $200,000 base + Super (negotiable within reason, depending on experience)
- A genuine 2IC role with a path to Head of Department
- Own your packages end to end, from design through to commissioning
