About Solomon Group & the Role
Solomon Group is a leading tertiary education provider, serving the needs of thousands of New Zealanders, from all walks of life, who seek further education and training to secure a better future for themselves and their families. We have been a registered Private Training Establishment (PTE) since 1999 and are one of the largest NZQA-accredited PTEs in New Zealand.
Our vision is to inspire and enable people to develop the skills they need to succeed in work and in life. We do this by engaging with learners in creative ways relevant to their needs and life circumstances. Our role is also to inspire and help learners onto education and employment pathways that meet their long-term aspirations.
We are committed to ensuring that every student attends school regularly and has the opportunity to succeed. As such, we work closely with schools and whānau in our community to ensure our next generation gets the opportunity of a consistent education.
We are seeking a compassionate, proactive School Attendance Officer to join our team. In this role, you won't just monitor numbers — you will build relationships, restore connections, and create pathways to success for rangatahi (youth) who need it most.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Working at the heart of our community, you will combine empathy and action to support students and their families:
Build Relationships & Trust: Conduct supportive home visits and engage directly with whānau to understand and resolve the root causes of absence (e.g., transport, social, or health barriers).
Collaborate for Success: Partner with school leaders, counsellors, social workers, and external support agencies to develop tailored attendance improvement plans.
Early Identification: Monitor attendance patterns to step in early before short-term absences become long-term challenges.
Maintain Quality Records: Keep accurate, confidential logs and provide insightful reports to assist schools and community partners.
Promote Positive Culture: Be a champion for inclusive, encouraging environments that inspire regular school attendance.
What You Bring to the Role
This role offers meaningful value — where you can contribute on a daily basis to the success of our youth.
Passion for Youth & Community: Genuine empathy, patience, and the ability to connect authentically with young people and their families.
Strong Communication: Excellent spoken and written skills, with the ability to navigate delicate conversations with care and confidentiality.
Self-Motivation & Organisation: Comfort working independently, managing your time effectively, and maintaining reliable records.
Requirements: Full, clean NZ Driver’s Licence and a clean criminal background check (police vetting).
Desirable (Bonus) Skills:
Fluency in Te Reo Māori or Pacific languages.
Experience in social work, community outreach, youth work, or school administration.
Familiarity with the New Zealand schooling system, pastoral care, or youth engagement strategies.
