Ready to kick off the new year with a fresh challenge? If you enjoy working with your hands, solving mechanical problems, and seeing the results of a hard day's work, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

Farmchief Machinery Ltd is looking for a Service Technician to join its Invercargill team. They're open to someone starting now or in the new year.

This is a practical, physically demanding role suited to someone who enjoys getting stuck in, working with machinery, and tackling a varied workload. With a strong focus on welding, fabrication, mechanical servicing, repairs, and maintenance, no two days will be quite the same.

About Farmchief Machinery

Farmchief Machinery is a proudly family-owned New Zealand business with a heritage dating back to the 1940s. With branches across Invercargill, Gore, Christchurch, Palmerston North, and Waikato, the business has built a strong reputation as a trusted agricultural machinery specialist.

About the Role

You'll work on a diverse range of customer and dealer-owned equipment, carrying out welding, fabrication, diagnostics, servicing, repairs, and preventative maintenance on Agricultural machinery. You'll also assist with field service work when required, so being comfortable with physical work, practical problem-solving, and getting out and about is essential.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out diagnostics, servicing, repairs, maintenance, welding, and fabrication across a range of agricultural machinery.
  • Testing and assessing equipment to identify faults and determine the best repair solutions.
  • Using electronic monitors, diagnostic software, and computer systems to troubleshoot, calibrate, and optimise machinery.
  • Measuring, cutting, fabricating, and replacing components as required.
  • Keeping accurate job records and providing updates on progress, priorities, and timeframes.
  • Ordering parts to ensure jobs are completed efficiently and within agreed schedules.
  • Communicating clearly with customers about completed work and recommending preventative maintenance or additional repairs where appropriate.
  • Travelling throughout Southland to support field service requirements.
  • Working collaboratively with the team to maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, and customer service.

About You

You're practical, mechanically minded, and not afraid of a physically demanding day. You enjoy variety, take pride in a job well done, and are comfortable rolling up your sleeves to get the work completed.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Experience in an engineering, fabrication, mechanical, automotive, or service technician role.
  • Strong welding and fabrication skills, including measuring, cutting, and interpreting drawings.
  • Experience working with agricultural machinery, or a genuine interest in developing your knowledge in this area.
  • A trade qualification in engineering, fabrication, mechanical, or automotive work (preferred, but not essential).
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with good attention to detail.
  • A positive attitude, a solid work ethic, and a willingness to learn.
  • A professional, customer-focused approach and the ability to communicate clearly.
  • Honesty, reliability, and integrity.
  • A full, clean driver's licence.

What's in It for You?

Joining Farmchief means more than just finding your next job. It's an opportunity to develop your skills, work with a varied range of machinery, and build a long-term career with an established, family-owned business.

You'll enjoy:
