At Peke Waihanga, our technicians play a vital role in creating high-quality prosthetic and orthotic devices that enable people to live active, independent lives. We are looking for a Technician to join our Wellington team and contribute to both traditional fabrication and the exciting growth of digital manufacturing.
This is an opportunity to be part of a team that combines craftsmanship, technology, innovation, and patient-centred care. As digital workflows continue to expand across our services, you will have the opportunity to develop skills in areas such as CAD design, 3D scanning, and technology-enabled manufacturing while maintaining the hands-on fabrication skills that remain critical to our service.
About the role
Working closely with Prosthetists, Orthotists and other Technicians, you will manufacture, modify and repair prosthetic and orthotic devices that support people across the Wellington region and beyond.
Key responsibilities include:
- Fabricating, fitting and repairing prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Working with a range of materials, tools and manufacturing techniques.
- Supporting clinicians to deliver high-quality outcomes for patients.
- Contributing to quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
- Using digital tools and technologies to support modern manufacturing processes.
- Developing capability in CAD, digital design, scanning technologies and emerging manufacturing methods.
- Collaborating with colleagues across the national Peke Waihanga network.
What we're looking for
We are interested in people who have:
- Experience in a technical, manufacturing, engineering, mechanical, trade, fabrication or production environment.
- Strong practical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- A genuine interest in learning and applying new technologies.
- Confidence using digital tools and computer-based systems, or the aptitude to develop these skills.
- An interest in CAD, 3D scanning, digital design, additive manufacturing, or technology-enabled production processes.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to quality, continuous improvement and customer service.
Experience in prosthetics, orthotics, medical devices, engineering fabrication, product design, manufacturing, or CAD would be advantageous, but training will be provided for the right candidate.
Why join us?
At Peke Waihanga, you'll join a purpose-driven organisation making a real difference in people's lives every day.
We offer:
- Meaningful and rewarding work.
- Ongoing training and development opportunities.
- Exposure to both traditional craftsmanship and modern digital manufacturing technologies.
- A supportive and collaborative team environment.
- 23 days annual leave and long service leave entitlements
- Contribution to healthcare insurance
- The opportunity to contribute to the future of prosthetic and orthotic service delivery in New Zealand.
