Business Development Manager - Automotive / Dealer Finance.
Auto Finance Direct is one of New Zealand’s leading automotive finance specialists, and we’re accelerating our growth.
We’re looking for a commercially driven Business Development Manager who can bring on new dealership partnerships while managing and growing an existing portfolio. You’ll combine proactive business development with strong relationship management, helping our partners succeed and driving sustainable growth for AFD.
If you enjoy being out in market, opening doors, and turning established relationships into stronger-performing partnerships, this is an opportunity to take ownership and make a real impact.
As part of the Optimus Group, we understand the full automotive ecosystem, from import and shipping through to compliance and wholesale funding. That depth of industry expertise gives you a strong, differentiated story to take to market and positions you as a valued partner to your dealer network.
About the Role
In this autonomous, market-facing role, you will:
Identify and secure new dealership and introducer partnerships.
Manage an existing portfolio, maintaining regular contact and building strong, lasting relationships.
Develop relationships with Business Owners, Dealer Principals, Sales Managers, Business Managers, and finance teams.
Review portfolio performance, identify growth opportunities, and develop practical plans to increase engagement, conversion, and wallet share.
Train and support dealership teams to confidently use AFD’s products, processes, and technology.
Position Auto Finance Direct as the preferred automotive finance partner through competitive funding solutions, responsive service, and industry expertise.
Work closely with our internal credit and operations teams to deliver a seamless experience for partners.
Maintain accurate relationship records, activity, and follow-up actions in our CRM.
Represent Auto Finance Direct through dealership visits, industry events, and ongoing market engagement.
Travel is an expected part of the role, supporting regular dealership visits, portfolio management, and new business development.
About You
You'll succeed in this role if you:
Bring proven experience as a Business Development Manager, Account Manager, or Territory Manager, with a track record of both winning new business and growing existing accounts.
Have solid experience within the automotive industry — dealerships, automotive finance, wholesale, or related sectors — and understand the commercial drivers that impact dealer profitability.
Are confident prospecting, cold calling, opening doors, and securing new partnerships.
Build trusted relationships and follow through on commitments, balancing partner support with commercial accountability.
Can engage confidently with Dealer Principals, General Managers, and senior decision-makers.
Understand structured finance conversations and can articulate value beyond rate, including speed, service, and long-term partnerships.
Use performance reporting and CRM tools to plan activity, identify opportunities, and manage your portfolio effectively.
Are self-motivated, organised, and resilient, with the discipline to balance new business activity and existing account responsibilities.
Are comfortable with regular travel and maintaining a strong presence with partners.
This opportunity is best suited to an experienced professional who can take ownership of an existing portfolio while actively developing new business.
